Looking for the best seat bag - ICS?
 

I'm going with an Arione on a new build. It'll have the ICS clip and I thought I'd naturally go with it. But it looks really strange sitting on the back of the bike. See here:

Anyone else try one of these? Thoughts?

Before I decided on a saddle, I thought I'd go with the Topeak Aero Wedge. It also clips in and looks like this:

Basically, I am looking for a small sized seat bag that's narrow and doesn't mar the look of a nice bike. Take a look at this for an example of what I don't want. My build is nowhere close to this level, BUT I'll put him to shame in the seat bag category (I mean, really, who buys the $5K LEWs and takes a pic with that bag?).

What's the good word on the best micro/small seat bag? Biggest qualities I'm looking for are lowest visibility while holding a spare tube, patch kit, co2 equipment, and tire levers - nothing more. Thanks, folks!

I've got the Topeak Aero Wedge. It's bigger than it looks in the picture and fits a tube, levers, 15mm box wrench, mini-pump, patch kit, multitool and pitlock key comfortably. The clip is kind of cool, but it definitely looks ugly w/o the bag on it and the bag shape is a little funky to begin with.

On my new bike I'm giving the Fiziki Aliante a try didn't/haven't move the clip over from my Toupe and I'm just using the smallest Lone Peak seatbag which fits everything except the minipump. I kind of like it better.

Best? For whom?

Anywho, I used to like the P.I. Tailgate, but now that I have two held together with duct tape I'm trying the J&D one with a touch more capacity. What I do hate are the bolt on bags. It's just more hardware.

i used the ICS clip for the Fizik Blinker light instead. it looks better IMO

I know it doesn't use that clip on the seat, but it fits nicely.
hard to beat IMO. fits a tube, tire levers, patches, money, key, ID.

I had the ICS seatbag for a month on my bike before the plastic cracked. Great idea but it does stand up.

Well... Krieg bags are not exactly low visibility, but they're great bags. They are very well constructed, not too big, and definitely 'unique' :p. They are velcro attachment only, but if you want to express your personality, they're a great way to go. Many are out-of-stock due to the holidays but I was told supplies would be replenished soon. If you see one you like - call them; they had mine in the warehouse even though the website said they were out.

performance cat-1 piccolo bag sounds like what you're asking for.

It is small, but mine holds 1 tube, 2 co2 cartridges, a screw-on co2 tip, 2 tire levers, a multitool (w/ chainbreaker), a couple of patches and band-aids, and a five dollar bill for patching a tire or buying a tube if necessary.

Hey - I know someone with that seat bag. Let's just say there's unique... and then there's UNIQUE :eek:.

Then again, someone told me yesterday that my seat bag looked like their grandmother's couch. Each to their own - I like my bag.

I've had mine for a couple of years, and it never rattles, and has never popped off unintentionally.

Some of these bags are very cool; are they embroidered or stenciled?

From the ones I've seen, neither. The mfg actually looks for really cool fabrics to make up the various designs; once they run out of a particular fabric then that's it for that particular bag. (At least that's what they told me - the bag I just got is getting ready to be discontinued because they can't get that material any more). I get the impression it's a really small, mom and pop type organization.

I bought the Fizik ICS bag because I wanted to own one saddle bag that could be easily interchanged between my mtb and road bike. It looks a little strange compared to a bag that is tucked in closer to the saddle, but the convenience outweights the looks. Mine has held up just fine too after a seasons worth of riding.

Another +1 on the scicon. Excellent bag, ultra minimalist.

Arundel Dual (essentially a end-overed Scicon)--holds tube, tool(s) and a little extra.

Guaranteed not rub or shred expensive bibs or bib contents!

I have stopped using a bag and just use the back pockets.

I saw a woman eat it when her clip on seat bag came loose and jammed between her rear tire and the frame. Stopped her bike almost instantly, but due to the magic of physics, her body kept going forward. Ouch.

I've come to like the Serfas road bags, mainly because they're decently sized, but very narrow and don't shred shorts.

Mine holds a spare tube, multitool, Co2 and inflater, money, a few other things.

These Scicon and Arundel bags are looking sweet. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like the look of the mini bags nestled up in the seat rails, which the Fizik ICS is definitely not doing.

As for using only back pockets, I just couldn't get used to that. I eliminated my lower back pain once I removed the tube, patch kit, co2, and multi-tool i was carrying on my lower back.

As I saw written here once: I bring what I need (a banana, gel, cell phone and ID in pockets) and the bike brings what it needs.

I used the medium bag most of the summer and filled it to the max. It held up fine. A riding buddy has the small version with minimalist flat repair tools and is happy with his. My LBS recommends using the light and getting a bag that can be used on any bike.

The medium bag was a little small for my taste but I was carrying too much stuff anyway so it forced me to go with what I consider the bare essentials but still twice as much as most people carry. BTW, my Alliante Sport seat ICS was defective and would not hold the bag securely. My LBS warrantied the seat and I swear that the bag is so secure you could pick the bike up by the bag. It certainly is not going to come loose with normal use.

You can attach an extra tube to the top of the bag to take up some of the gap that you do not like. It stays cleaner on top that it would attached to the bottom of the bag if you get caught in a storm.

I use the Topeak Aero Wedge Size Medium and it fits everything I need perfectly. I think it is a good size too. Doesnt make the bike look wierd and holds what you need. I got the version that velcros ont he seat rails instead of the clips because I prefer the velcro as those clips always break. My only complaint is that the strap that goes around the seatpost is huge. Its made for like a 1.5" - 2" seatpost and is loose on my seatpost but it hasnt caused any problems.

I use the same Medium Wedge but the one with the saddle clip. I don't use the seat strap because the velcro is exposed and rubs against my bib leg so I don't use it. It stays stable and has not fallen off.

-wrench (for when I'm riding my SS, it doesn't have quick release)

And it's completely transparent, it'll never rub. I had previously been using Trek's smallest saddle bag, but every once in awhile it would rub.

I like the Timbuk2 bike seat bags. I have the medium sized one and it holds a tube, CO2 cartridge and head, a couple of allen keys, a tire boot and my house keys no problem. The velcro that goes around the seatpost was a bit long for my 27.2 mm diameter post, but I just trimmed off the excess.
