Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Unofficial Pay it Forward Thread

I was sitting here thinking, I have some stuff that will just sit in the garage until I decide to throw it away, and that's a waste. Was thinking it would be a good idea to pass it down the forum to someone new, to either try out, and forward on to others, or keep and then have the next person promise to put something else that they have laying around the house out to the forum.

So, to start it off, this is what I am thinking. I only need a small paypal donation to pay the shipping (about 6-9 bucks to the U.S. I figure) and a promise that you will either pass it along after you try it or put something you've got lying around out there for others to try. If they do the same thing, this could be a cool thing.

What I have is a Selle Italia SLR (the only problem is that it is stuck to a Look Carbon seatpost, with stripped screws, but if you can figure out how to get it off, I only used it for about two weeks), and I also have a Specialized Taupe Gel in White 143 mm in about 8.5 or 9.out of 10 condition.

If this sounds like a good idea, and you are interested in paying something forward, respond here, and I'll give that person my paypal ID. and put the saddle or saddles out in UPS. Then you can put something else out there and the BF community will benefit. At minimum, this might be a decent way to road test a saddle.

Thanks

Darren

I'm in!!...but I already have a Toupe so maybe someone else could get that....I'd love to try the SLR though

I have some lightly used, inexpensive SPD pedals with cleats I'd be willing to put in the mix....and I think some Pearl Izumi shoes...I'll have to check the size on the shoes though(44 I think)

I'd love that Toupe, I have a few things lying around too.....

EDIT: Forgot to post that I have some new cheapo clippless pedals nashbar brand, boxed with cleats...... If I'm feeling generous, I might throw out (actually more like "in") my BNIB Truvativ Carbon crank (with new BB) that came with my groupset and has been replaced by a DA.

EDIT2: I actually have a white/black no-name seat (that came off an old Windser that I would be willing to lend out too.

I have a Motobecane SL aluminum frame in 56 that is doing nothing... only problem is shipping from Hawaii might be 50 or 60 bucks. Anyone in Hawaii need one?

Wow, I was looking for a saddle too. The only problem is I'm really new to cycling and don't have anything to give!

I'd take the toupe off your hands if you give me your paypal address and put up my fizik arionne that doesn't fit my rear.

I've also got a free isis truvativ triple crank, and a 31.8 clamp on shimano 105 9 speed front derailer

are they spd road or mtb pedals? ive been looking for a second set of spd road pedals to put on my beater so my good bike and beater could be ridden clipped in without having to swap the pedals constantly. are the shoes used? ive got 45's that are about to fall apart and are a little big, but im weird about sharing shoes for new shoes or shoes that just didnt work for you and werent riden much id toss a little money your way....

ive got a pair of wellgo look style pedals and cleats that were only used for about 400 miles. also a junk Velo saddle and massive Bell saddle bag thats just too bulky for my liking.

Sigh... why do you all order 56's? Isn't there one among you to order a 54?

I'll gladly take the Fizik Arione off your hands. I have an E3 ti that could fit better

This is cool, it could work out fantastically the way I hoped it might. It's 9:00 p.m. in CA, and there are a few people interested in both saddles. I am trying to take in order of posting. If one of them lines up on both saddles, I will ship out in the next day or so. And will post here. For those who have stuff, I hope others will be interested, they will take it for shipping, and then pay it forward with something else.

Thanks for the the interest. And I will post tomorrow.

I am always giving out bike stuff for free in BF, so it's good to see someone start another thread like this...
Now I guess it’s time for me to dig around my cycling closet and see if I have any extra stuff lying around to give away.

Since the other PIF thread is buried at the bottom of the forum listing in Marketplace->For Sale->PIF, I'll cross-post here.

Have:

Would rather someone new or in need put these to use rather than go through the rigmarole of listing them on eBay. Since there are two sets of pedals and handlebars, please take only one if you need them. After PMing me with your ZIP code, I'll get the exact amount of shipping, respond to you and you can PayPal me the postage.

I know this is the Roadie forum, however some of you must be new, also ride a MTB, and/or know someone who needs these. There should be one of these PIF threads stickied atop each forum.

im interested in either saddle (slr, troup) if it makes a difference i don't even have a saddle for my road bike yet. but if for some reason you dont give either one to someone else, let me know.

p.s. if anyone has an ok compact crank i will trade them a slightly used 105 triple or an ultegra RD, i will trade a tiagra RD
