Paris-Brest-Paris qualifications?

Does anyone know how one qualifies to ride the Paris-Brest-Paris race? Or a website (in English) that I can go to for the info would be great.

Thanks,

Koffee

From Randonneurs USA's website:

All would-be PBP participants must do a brevet series in order (200-, 300-, 400-, and 600-kilometer events) in the year of PBP, finishing the series by mid-June.
These rides must also be completed within a maximum time corresponding with an average speed between 15 and 30 kph including stops (checkpoints en-route must also be reached before a certain time). 600k must therefore be completed in less than 40 hours.

And it's not a race :).

Thanks for the info.

I know it's not a race- more like a race against yourself! But for lack of a better word, I just use the word "race".

Have you done the "race" or know someone who did?

I'm gonna take a look at the stuff on the site and see about this- been talking with my friend about attempting it in 2007, but we don't know anything except it's long and difficult, and there has to be a way to qualify to ride it. That's about it. :( Better to get the knowledge now and decide if we can even attempt this bad boy.

Thanks again!

No. I did the three shorter qualifiers this year as a test to see if randonneuring was for me. I hope to do a full series next year, and I would like to do it sometime in the future.

I don't really know anyone who have done it, but three riders qualified for PBP on the rides I did.

I would recommend reading stories of others who have done it, and to ride at least one ride of about 400k before the qualifying year. Many randonneurs think that the 400k is the hardest in the qualifying series, and therefore it might be a good idea to try that kind of distance before to get a glimpse of what you're getting yourself into :).

Team Bikeaholics, a local SF Peninsula group, sent 36 riders on the PBP this year. They have reports from doing the qualifiers, and from the 1999 edition, on their web site, along with tips .
