Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sidi Ergo 2 owners. Techno Buckle - easy or no?

Hi. Just looking to get some new shoes. I'm looking into the ergo 2, but as competitive cyclist points out, I am a little intimidated by the techno buckle. I would assume that it's easy enough, but just curious what people thought about it here.

Thanks!
C

I presume the 'techno buckle' you're talking about is the middle one?. Dunno why you think you'd have issues with it?....it's pretty intuitive even without reading the instructions. I had more issues with the heel adjustment, ended up pulling it off all together

I have a pair of some of the first Sidis with the Techno buckles. Mine are MTB shoes with two buckles on each shoe. They work, no problems yet and the shoes are fairly old and beat up. But I think the Techno buckle is dumb and pointless. Velcro works just fine.

Super easy, and its mostly set and forget. You may readjust every now and then to differ for thick winter socks or super thin hot weather socks. Can be done on the fly. I have two on my Energy.

After being coated in mud and slop over 3 years, the Techno buckles on my Sidi Actions still work like new. I prefer them to velcro because they are easier to adjust while moving on the bike than velcro and you know the exact amount of tension you are applying from the rotation angle of the buckle. Some Velcro straps eventually pill or get crap caught in the hooks thus leading to eventual loosening during the ride.

Edit:
Oh, BTW, I use both Sidi Action & 5.5 HT carbons and prefer the adjustability of the Techno buckle.

I Have The Ergo 2 With The Velcro, The Wheel Adjuster, And The Ratchet Strap. Frankly, I Can't Possibly See Or Understand Why In The World You Really Need Or Want The 3 Different Systems As One Would Be More Than Plenty. I Would Prefer The Wheel Thing For Th Lower 2 And The Ratchet Thing For The Top Personally. I Have Always Had Problems With Velcro Over Time Getting Worn Out. It Is Pertty Easy To Use. Also, Once I Set It The First Time, I Have Not Touched It As I Only Do And Undo The Top One To Get In And Out Of The Shoes.

I have the Sidi Energy HT (2 techno buckles) and the Genius 6.6 (2 velcro straps) and prefer the velcro. Not a huge deal either way.

I have both the double velcro and the double buckles. I happen to use the double buckle shoe because it has a carbon sole and it's noticeably stiffer.

The buckles are fine. Just don't let the little silver pin fall out, you'll have to buy replacement buckle pieces.

Also, I tend to overtighten them. So comfy I can't tell what's right or wrong until my feet hurt or, after a while, I tighten them and it feels "more snug". I tend to keep them looser than tighter since I can always tighten them and having them too tight really hurts.

its very easy and simple to use. i came to a conclusion that there is no reason to mess with it too much while riding. its a comfy shoe...im sure you will be happy with it.
