Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

dura-ace or 105 pedals?

Do you think dura-ace pedals are worth the extra money over the 105's for general use (not a racing bike)?

I can get the 105 pedals with cleats for $53 or the dura-ace for $136 (Both 2008 model)
I am leaning toward the 105's unless I hear the dura-ace are a big improvement.

Thanks for any input!

No.

The only advantage dura ace has is a very slightly smaller q-factor (serveral mm's) and weight reduced.

For general use, my vote is for the 105's. My pedals always get the crap beat out of it, maybe that's just me.

that is where I was looking for the 105s and dura ace but for some reason didnt see those and thought they didnt have them. Just did another search....that might be my best bet as it is only like $10 more.

They don't mention if they are 2008 though, anybody know if there is any significant changes between 07 and 08 ultegra pedals?

I have both the 105 and Ultegra SPD-SL. I can't feel a difference. I don't have experience with the Dura Ace, but I imagine you get a slightly nicer set of bearings and a nicer finish.

The newer Dura-Ace pedals have a wider platform and uses three bearings.

There is just something inherently UNSEXY about 105...

a normally $240+ pedal for $130? Hell I'd buy an extra set for that price. D/A no question. They are more durable than the 105s. Unless of course you beat on pedals and don't mind the 105s, then get 4 sets of them instead.

If I were you, I'd get the 2008 105 pedals (wider platforms). But you might well be a more serious rider than me.

+1

Do NOT buy the old versions of the 105/ultegra/da pedals. The new ones are superior in every way. The 105 new ones are only $10 more max, on PBK. Increased contact area, lower stack height and lighter.

The new ones are the PD-5610

MTB pedals are a better value if you don't mind a little extra weight. The crank brothers pedals are a better value if you buy the higher end versions. It is really childsplay to rebuild a crank brother pedal.

Good luck. Don't spend too much, what the hell is the point?

Here's a link when it was in stock:

just double the price to get the rough price in USD.

The new Look pedals might be better but Look quality sucks. I went through five sets of Look's a few years ago on three bikes. I switched to Shimano with no problems.

Stick with 105 for general use - they will be more than adequate.
