Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Brakes: Force for 150 or Red for 200... Poll

So I can get (via eBay) Force for 150 shipped, or Red for 200 shipped. Worth it to step up to the Red?

The listed weight difference is 15g... I've seen several on-the-scale pics of both, and it appears that sometimes the difference is greater (17-18g) and sometimes it's less (10-12g)...

So obviously the weight factor isn't a giant consideration here. Is 50 extra bones buying one any extra performance? Red does look nicer than Force, less dense looking in design (saw them both in person)... is it worth it just for the resale value?... any justification?

Do you like to sit and pose at Starbucks with your bike? Get Red.

Do you actually cycle? Get Force.

What if you like to ride hard to the Starbucks, sit, pose, then ride hard away?

Red front, Force rear.

No-one ever looks at your rear brakes

Unless of course, you actually ride, in which case, it will be the component most stared at by the person behind you in the paceline. (Assuming your bibs don't count as a component)

Due to crappy design the Rival/Force brakes practically require taking off the front calipers to change the pads. I would go Red just for that.

How big is your wallet?
How big is your ego?

Will the difference in cash prevent you from doing important things like going to Starbucks?
