happy / sad day...

so around midnight or so last night my girlfriend and I ended our relationship...so that's the sad part...

the happy part...it's almost 50 degrees outside here in the 'burgh and i'm goin riding!

the other part...thats kinda funny...well she dropped me from the relationship and she gave a few reasons and two of them were: 1. You spend more money on your bike sh*t than you do on me. 2. You spend more time with the bike than me.

well..off to ride...any ladies care to join? :p

glad you finally got your priorities straight.:)

At least you weren't married and she signaled her desire to move on by taking up with another guy - again.

cuski 01-28-08 01:48 PM

Girlfriends come and go... cycling will be your true loyal friend.

HAMMER MAN 01-28-08 01:55 PM

you think women would realize sometime in their lives that they are not always the center of the universe

Hocam 01-28-08 02:03 PM

How much money was she spending on you? I'd imagine a lot less than you were on her, even with the bike schwag.

StanSeven 01-28-08 02:06 PM

Yeah, but I'm sure that bike isn't going to feel as good tonight :)

rstooksberry 01-28-08 02:07 PM

had to buy my girlfriend a bike to get her off my back...... it all worked out i guess she got me a tarmac for christmas :)

GatorFL 01-28-08 02:09 PM

I was upfront with my girlfriend when we started dating. I told her the bike (and car) came first. She was really excited when she realized I might like her more than the car. I think she's happy with 2nd.

Ryleeryno 01-28-08 02:10 PM

Forget her. Never let a significant other get in the way of cycling. (unless she was hot. Got pics?)

Start doing charity rides and this Spring and place a sign on your back that says, "I'm Single". When a cute girl notices it tell her that your friends must have placed it there in a childish attempt to get you hitched. Then start talking to her and BAM! you got a bike girlfriend.

Why is always at midnight women drope the hamer on this stuff? Like we won't sleep or something....

Like others have said, it's better now than with a ring on her finger. If cycling is truly a passion with you, as it sounds, just make sure 100% that your next interest understands this. One of the better ways is to meet one already involved in the sport or get her to ride with you.

One of the ways I was able to get my fiancee to understand my love of the bike was to take her on a weekly family night club ride (easy 12 miles) and also take little mini-dates around the city on our bikes, just exploring and then stopping someplace to have a bite to eat.

She doesn't put on even a 1/100th of the miles that I do, but she understands my passion and is supportive....even going to my races and cheering me on as I get my ass kicked.

BillyD 01-28-08 07:47 PM

Now you listen to me and listen to me good!

They're a dime a dozen . . . . forget that one and get another!

THAT is all!!!

Machka 01-28-08 07:58 PM

This is to all of you who are whining about women (partners) who don't understand your desire to be out cycling .....

Hook up with a cyclist! How hard is that to figure out??? Hook up with a girl (or guy) who has a house full of bicycles and bicycle stuff, and who invites you out to a the local century, charity ride, race or brevet for your first date. Hook up with one who says, "If you want to talk to me, you'd better be on a bicycle riding next to me".

Why hook up with someone who doesn't have the same passion?

Because if you're lucky, 1 in 10 cyclists are female.

Worse than video gamers, but at least they're generally fat.

Savagewolf 01-28-08 08:08 PM

My fiancee (as I posted earlier, she's cool about me and my bikes) always calls my bike my mistress.

So start making cycling more attractive to females. If you're part of a club, get them to hold a regular weekly ride that would appeal to females (and also males) ... for example, a ride that might be somewhat brisk and challenging etc., but devoid of the usual testosterone battle that takes place out there, which turns females off. If you work in a shop, or are somehow associated with a shop, make sure it is female friendly ... that there are female products (clothing, bicycles, etc.), and that the staff treats females with respect ... that they do not ignore females when they walk in the door, and that they don't treat females like idiots who don't know what we are talking about.

Just some ideas.

Yeah, you'd think, but I've got anecdotal evidence to suggest otherwise.

Also, OP, let's ride sometime, man. PM me n'at.

....and the weak legs would be worth it.

Thanks Machka. My fellow female cyclists get tired of the chest pounding and smell of burning testosterone. Hello guys! We're over here!
