Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

fixing a Mavic G3 rear wheel

Hi. I asked the question on he track subforum but nobody answered.

Is it relatively common to have to reglue the body of a Mavic wheel? As in, the aluminum body unglued itself from the carbon and if you pedalled, you would go nowhere...

I seem to remember reading about this being somewhat common and fixable with Mavic wheels, but could not find the info online now that I searched for it.

Ditto about replacing the axle or body (or whatever would need to be replaced) to use this road wheel on the track.

Any leads? Thanks!

As I remembered, the Mavic 3G wheels are modular, they have universal carbon wheel with front and rear hub interchangable between the carbon wheels. Aluminum housing that "host" the hub to each wheel, I've never seen nor heard of that aluminum house become unglued from the carbon wheel, but I guess it is possible.

The hub needs to have two pieces of small aluminum cylinders in place of the aluminum housing on the wheel in order to "enguage" the wheel, maybe you just don't have those two small aluminum cylinders between the hub and wheel of the 3G.

cat0020, thanks for the quick reply.
Are the hubs that fit in these wheels standard/available from Mavic? If I wanted to convert this wheel to a front wheel, or track wheel...?

(Also I did not take apart the wheel at all and it's possible that it's the hub that's actually spinning free inside the aluminum housing.)
