Compact crankset confusion

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Compact crankset confusion

Hi,

pardon my noviceness. I've just bought a used bike with standard Record gearing and want to change to compact. I'm having difficulty understanding all the differences.

Can somebody tell me what the difference is between normal Campy and Campy CT compacts. Will a CT compact crankset fit with my bike, specs following...

Also, I was looking at FSA compact cranksets, but have been reading that people have problems with them, hence my thinking it would be safer for me to stick with all one make.

BB CAMPAY RECORD 102 ENG 1.37x24 BB

• CAMPY RECORD BLK DIFFERENTAL-BRAKE

• CAMPY RECORD ULTRA NARROW 10sp CHAIN

• CAMPY RECORD 10sp 12x25 CASSETTE

• CAMPY RECORD 10sp ERGOPOWER LEVER

• CAMPY RECORD CARBON 172.5 53x39 CRANKSET

• CAMPY RECORD B/O FRNT DERAILLEUR 9/10sp

• CAMPY RECORD 10sp REAR DERAILLEUR

• CAMPY RECORD 35.0 BND FRNT DERAILLEUR

You should have NO trouble re-fitting a Campy CT crankset. You may need a new front derailuer to accommodate this since it looks like your parts vintage is pre-2007. Bottom bracket will be just fine. Square taper I presume (it's square taper if there isn't a gaping hole in the middle of the crankset). It's about 15 minutes of labor.

The standard front derailleur will work just fine with a compact crankset... the CT version of the front derailleur will work slight better.

... and a newbie with Campy Record.... life is good I guess. :-)
