Trek 5.2 Madone Included Wheels???

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 5.2 Madone Included Wheels???

I am going to be buying my first road bike in the upcoming weeks. I have ridden and like the 5.2. I was on Trek's website just now and noticed something odd.

The wheels listed in the specs say that Bontrager Race Lite are included. I also have a catalog that states they are Bontrager Race Lite wheels.

However, if you click on the 'Download Hi-Res Bike Photo' link and look at the wheels on the bike in that photo you will se they are Bontrager Race X Lite wheels.

I can not recall what the bike I rode had on it. All of these components are so new to me....so much to learn. I'm surprised I even noticed this

I guess I am wondering if Trek ever did ship bikes with Bontrager Race X Lite wheels. That way maybe I can find one in the shop with those wheels vs. the Bontrager Race Lite's.

Anyone know?

When I look on the Trek website, I do not see what you describe. The two Madone 5.2s, regular and pro, and the the two Madone 5.5s, regular and pro, have RaceLite wheels. Perhaps you are looking at the RaceXLite tires and not the wheels in the pictures?

I very seriously doubt you will be able to find a shop that would mistakenly throw the RaceXLite wheels on a 5.2 without charging you. If you want the RaceXLite wheels, however, just offer to pay the price difference at retail between the RaceLites and RaceXLites and the shop will likely make the substitution for you.

The '07 bike did come with raceXlite tires. Perhaps this is what you saw. Other than that, trust the spec, not the picture.
