No, Kevin Levrone, Ronnie Coleman are huge. If where talking in terms of Cycling & not bodybuilding then there are still no huge people involved in the sport. When I watch cycling on TV ie World Championships, I don't think to myslef, damn them sprinters are huge. They all look the same to me, very skinny...

I admit one thing though, when you see Jan with his earing in, he looks like one tough Mother&^%%$$... If only he had the self discipline to go along with his great talent..

"Proper weight"
I guess at 160 and the same height as you (5'7"), I'm very improper. Someone call the fat police!

5'9" and 135 my lowest was last year when I hit 124. That was unhealthy but that was during the winter when I was running track and averaging round 50 miles a week. Its tempting to drop to 130 for the upcoming race season.

I'm 5'7'' -> 5'8'' (seems like a popular height range here...albeit compared to the general population it's rather short for males) and I weigh 150lbs
However, living on campus, studying all day, and eating cafeteria food is putting a huge dent on my physical fitness. I'm aiming to get to 140lbs for the summer racing season.

i'm 5'8 and 160 to 165. I may not be the first guy up on a long climb, but I have the horsepower to fly on the flats and move pretty fast on the short climbs.
I think if you're drafting behind someone small, it's ok to take a shorter pull. The important thing is to be strong enough to recover without being dropped.

back in the good ol' days, when I was riding to college, I weighed 141 (I'm 5'8") and everyone guessed me at 125-130 lbs. Those were the days.
And you know what really chaps me is that in highschool I weighed 165 and felt soooooo fat and now I would give my eyeteeth to be back at that weight!

I'm about 6'4" (193cm) and 140-145lbs (63.5-65.7kg). I dunno what an 'ideal weight' chart would say about it, but I've been able to knock off a few marathons pretty quickly and keep up on a bike with most riders I know, so it works for me.

I'm 5'10 and weigh between 165 and 170. It's very tightly packed, my estimated weight from others is around 155, so I'm actually 10-15 pounds heavier than I look. Despite my weight, I am strong in the mountains, and stay pretty competitive on flatter ground as well. I do a lot of weight training, so I'm sure that adds mass that I wouldn't have otherwise, so I might actually be 155 without the weight training, but I enjoy it too much to give it up.

O/k folks, lets get technical here.
All this talk of "Clydesdale`s", "Skinny`s". And on, can be categorised as belonging to three basic human body structures.
Mainly due to the inherited Genes handed down through our parental and family trend.
The three basic body shapes are known as, "Ectomorph", this is a person of probably quite tall structure, with long thin arms, similar legs and body,
The second group, is known as the "Mesomorph". This group makes up the majority of the population body shape, often classified as of being of "medium biuld. These types are the ones with the ability to fluctute a great deal between body weights. That is the ability to lose lbs by specific exercises or put on many lbs with the lack of...
The final group is the "Endomorph". Sorry if there are people reading who are of this inclinassion, and bad luck, but I hope most of us on the bike forums are not in this category, "Obeasity" comes to mind when describing this group, enough said.
My category.... 6ft and 140 lbs, may put on a few lbs during the less intense Winter period. So I guess I`m a skinny, sorry "Ectomorph".....

Riding behind her is always extra work because of this, regardless of where one is in the paceline. Sorry Franchine, but I wish you weighed 150 so you could block more wind. Or you would wear shoulder pads.

Maajr - my 5200 has put up with me. I was 5' 8" 192 and following my divorce got as high as 230. I'm riding again and am passing thru 213 atm. I have lifted weights for 25 years and I swear I can hear the bike cry when I sprint, but zero problems with it.
As for weighing 127, I havent seen that since the 5th grade.
As I pass folks on the downhills I yell FTFG....(Follow the fat guy) I always get a few takers. =)

[ I have a 48" chest and when I did my double century I could bench 300 strict. Granted my BF% was around 14 or so and I wouldnt mind it lower but I'm built like a fire plug.
And you have your physics all backwards. I would have the heart attack on the way up the hill, you on the other hand would suffer on the way down trying to keep up. =)

As for the topic of the thread tho, after a certain point in ones life larger muscles are for the most part cosmetic. I would peg my ideal weight to be around 180. Tho I would still be a huge cyclist. Ultimatly though its what ever a person is content pushing up a hill that is their ideal weight.

I am 6'5 and usually between 245 and 235 depending how cut I am at the time. My body fat is very low however. Going to try some track cycling this summer and although I am a lot heavier than most roadies, my quad strength should help me out in the velodrome as I have always been a good sprinter.
Remember that scale weight is not as imprtant as body fat percentage, overall fitness and how you feel. I have some clients who are 6'0 180 who are in a lot different shape than another person who is also 6'0 180.
