I just got a CD100 Astrale Cateye computer for my bike. I purchased it because it shows cadence. Is there a way to set the lower display to automatically cycle through functions, such as average speed, total distance, trip distance , elapsed time, etc.
My old Schwinn computer does that and it works great. It just doesn’t have the cadence display.

I pretty sure the answer is no. The only auto functon is the one that starts and stops the timer functions as you stop and go.

I've had a Cateye Astrale for years and I love this little computer. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Are you asking whether the computer can be set to display the speed, distance, max. speed, etc. alternately by itself? If so, the answer is no. I just press the left button to cycle through the displays until I see the info I need (usually, I just set the display to show speed on top and cadence on bottom -- I only look at the other info at the end of the ride). The right button sets the upper display to show either speed or cadence.

Recently, after about 5 years, one of the sensors on my Astrale fell off on a ride. If it hadn't, I'd still be using it. It's a very reliable computer.

Cateye has a cordless computer, but it doesn't have the same features as the Astrale (it doesn't have cadence). Basically, if you want cadence, you have to go with regular wired version.

The difference between the regular and cordless versions is just that: the wires. Some people think the cordless versions are cleaner to install because you don't have to run the wires along your frame. But others say cordless computers might also be susceptible to interference from strong electric fields and certain types of signals. I've never used a cordless computer, so I don't know if that's true or not. I can tell you that sometimes even the wired computers stop working -- from too much moisture, bad contacts, etc. But my Cateye Astrale has been very dependable and rarely let me down. (I had an Avocet 45 once and it sucked: It used up batteries like crazy, half the time the buttons didn't work, and the rest of the time the sensor wouldn't pick up the cadence no matter how much I adjusted it.)

I see that Cateye just upgraded their computers, so the online dealers are selling off the old models at a very good discount. You can find an old Cateye Astrale for about $20.

I'm getting used to looking at the cadence now. NO MORE COASTING! I notice when I take a breather and coast that the cadence drops to zero and I feel massive GUILT.

I am finding that my legs are happiest around 70-80 rpm's. Is that normal? Is it most efficient to raise it up into the 80-90 area, drop below 70 or stay where it is?

I've been using their wireless computer for 6 years now......& never had a problem with signal interference. Anyway, I just bought their latest wireless for my newly built touring bike. Nice computer.... If you don't need cadence, wireless is the way to go.... nice clean setup.

Anyone got an opinion on which is the better computer between the CD100 and the new Astrale 8?

I personally like the new Astrale 8 better as it looks better and appears to be sealed better (not that I ever had any real issues with my older Astrale). The on bike setup is much easier than the older model due to redesigned cadence and speed mounting points.

One problem I have with the new 8 is - I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set it to MPH from KPH. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The new 8 also has a front wheel speed sensor which isn't a big deal unless you used the rear speed sensor on a trainer during the winter months.

Not too tough, but you will loose your current data. Hit the "All Clear" button, than while the MPH or KPH are flashing hit the set button on the rear to toggle between the two.

Well I purchased the Astrale8.

Now does anyone know how to change the time from 24hr to 12hr?

Also how is your wiring held to the frame? I had the LBS fit it and they used those plastic ties, just wondering if there is a better alternative. Something that wont rub the paint. I have about seven of them on the frame.

One other thing to others who have the Astrale8, did yours come with any kind of warranty certificate or something?

Also is it possible to view the clock other than when its in the battery saving mode?

Just hold down the button that changes the information displayed. It looks as if the 12/24 clock is assigned based on the unit of measurement you choose (Km or miles). With kilometer measurements using the 24 hour clock and mile measurements using the 12 hour clock.

I have mind held on by the ties as well (had to go buy some larger ones since my down tube is a bit oversized) but I wrapped the wiring where the ties are in electrical tape to prevent it from cutting into the soft rubber.

As far as I gather from their site, the warranty thing is on the manual near the bottom.
