Got a flat on my first sunday group ride =(
Sux for me.
I did not pack a spare or tools.... I bailed from the group which I proudly sucked wheel from for 75% of the ride with no problems...
Now my ego is hurt... and I need advice for a good portable co2 & patch kit to carry with me next sunday...
Any ideas ?

Other ideas include- Everytime you ride and are not racing.... bring a spare tub , a full waterbottle, a cell phone, I.D., emergency contacts info, and 20 bucks. Never leave home without these items.

getting a flat on your first ride with a new group sucks, and sucks hard. i just had that experience last week.
getting a flat on your first ride with a new group, and not having a spare tube/pump/tire irons is, in a word, idiotic.
lesson learned, i hope.

Carry a spare tube. Use a patch kit as a back up to the spare tube.
No one would loan you a tube and a pump?

Innovations makes several great CO2 inflators. Be sure to get the 16 gram CO2 because it'll inflate your tires to 120psi. If you get the 12 gram, they'll only fill up to about 90psi.
I don't bother with patch kits on the road, I bring a spare tube instead. It takes too much time to find the hole, sand the tube and wait for the glue to dry. I may bring 2 tubes depending on how long/far I intend to ride. I leave my patch kit at home to repair tubes after the ride.

CO2 inflators are great unless you get a second flat and don't have another cartridge. i carry a road morph, spare tube and a REMA Tip Top patch kit (which costs like 2 bucks) and this covers me pretty well.

I will HTFU... eventually !
I'll take a look at getting the 16g co2 kit & a spare tube for the ride.
Now, the hole in my tire is big, I'm certain I should replace the tire but its barely got 100 miles on it. sux.

Sorry to hear about the flat. Hope your tire isn't ruined. If you have to ask if it's still good, I don't think it is! Either way, bring it with you when you buy your CO2 kit. Speaking of CO2, make sure it has an on-off feature. I learned the hard way that screwing the bottle on and off isn't an on-off switch (pop!). Always be prepared. I thought I was prepared. Spare tube, patch kit, CO2 inflator with 3 carts, and a small pump.
Then I did a group ride with my buddies tri team last december. 50 miles in 44 degree rain. About 15 miles into the ride I went through a puddle with a hidden pothole. Instantly flatted both tires. Had to borrow a tube from my buddy, since there was no way to patch a tube in those conditions.
We finished the ride but we lost track of his girlfriend during the incident so he had to ride the rest of the time with just me (part of the ride was for me to meet his GF for the first time).
Now I carry 2 tubes. I get the ultralight ones since they pack smaller. Small price to pay to make sure I am ready for almost anything.

If you ride on bad roads and you're not racing (or pretending), I recommend puncture resistant tires like Gatorskins. Flats suck and puncture resistant tires can go thousands of miles between flats.

I don't really ever go out for regular road riding without Gatorskins on my wheels. I haven't flatted in thousands of miles, now.

I used to carry a pump with me when I rode, but today I had the honor of using my CO2 for the first time. All I could think of after my flat was, "why do they still sell pumps?" These things rock. I was back on the road in 4 minutes. Super easy to use too. My mind was blown.

I have a Pedros co2 inflator, haven't had to use it...yet. Thinking about a pump also just in case. Any ideas on a frame mount? or will a compact get me to 110psi? Any suggestions?

+1 on the roadmorph, it is a great frame pump and you never have to worry about multiple flats. My kit is 1 spare tube, 1 patch kit, $20, car key, photocopy of drivers license and medical card, gel pack, protien bar, and a built tool from germany that has levers allen wrench ends, spoke wrench, chain tool, and a open ended wrench. The tool is about the size of two matchboxes.
I know I carry a lot, but I'm never worried about flats and such. The money will also work at a tire boot as well, god forbid you ever need that.
Welcome aboard

I went from pumps > CO2 > pumps. I carry CO2 occasionally when I don't feel like strapping a pump on my frame.

screw CO2 pumps, all you need are (park tools' pre-glued) patches & a regular pump. and maybe a tube just in case.
why? because you don't want to be the one saying, "this is my 2nd flat, but i only brought one CO2 cartridge... can you help me?"

I rode for a couple seasons on Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase tires....wire-beaded heavy *******s, and rode in all seasons and over all kinds of **** without one flat. Those things were pretty bulletproof.

For CO2 pumps, go with threadded. The threadless ones connect to the valve part with a plastic housing that Ive found very difficult to use. The plastic threads on the housing
always gave me trouble when trying to connect it to the valve piece.
