What is taking a break from cycling?

Is taking a break (in terms of muscle recovery):
1. actually not cycling for a day(s)
2. cycling less the next day after a hard ride
3. still hammer even after a hell of a ride

Taking a break? Why would you take a break?

Recovery ride, easy, slower than the fixed gear hipster that will pass you and laugh then post it on SSFG forums.

well kinda like at a gym? work out your arms, take a break for a day and work out chest, etc... you know, working different parts in a pattern.

just thought maybe that concept applied.

For running and nordic skiing, we have 3 hard days a week, 1 easy day which is a jog to get the lactic acid out before sunday and the other two are medium intensity. Sunday is off.

I take a rest day every 6th or 7th day. Ride a shorter ride than usual one of the other days.

all the time due to work. i think most people have a problem not getting enough saddle time.

4. The time period from when my last ride ended and my next one begins.

Yes, but I think it depends on what kind of recovering you want to do. If you are trying to recover so you can train hard again, you should take an active training day. Spin, take it easy. It keeps your muscles loose and you will feel better the next day. If you are looking to recover before a race, I would do nothing.

Many (myself included) find that recovery rides after intense sessions actually put you in a better form than riding hard again the next day or taking the day off.

Effective training can be achieved with concentrated efforts interspersed with the right amount of recovery efforts. You will end up in better shape than just hammering everyday.

BTW - recovery ride isn't an just going out and riding a little easier. It is a concerted effort to spin under as little of a load as possible. Great ride to take a significant other on.

A brief recovery period after my most recent surgery (4x shoulders, 2 fusions in my neck).

I can see you've only been here for about a year, so we're going to let this go.

We shall never speak of this again.

I thought it had to do with dropping the kids off at the pool?

I could never actually part with my cat Chester. He is part of my F Me Karma, and an integral element in my Self Loathing. But if he does come to an unfortunate demise in say, a clothes dryer, no questions will be asked.

phallenthoul 03-03-08 08:05 PM

feethanddooth 03-04-08 03:59 PM

You're bringing back fond memories. Wait, I don't really remember the late 1970's.

Never mind.

Pregnancy?

Thirstyman 03-04-08 04:27 PM

Yup. rode a hard and fast 28 miles yesterday. Wet today. gives me an excuse to head to the gym instead to work the upper body.
