trying to buy road shoes for me and for my wife...HELP! What are the brands and features we should look for for a size 11 man and a size 10(womens) woman??

I was looking at Sidi Genius mega lorica (i have wide feet) but I don't know what to look for and i REALLY don't know about Mrs. Cycledorchy.

any suggestions for decent road shoes for under $200 for me and under $100 for her (she's not as in to it as me...yet)?

i just got some sidi "bullet 2" shoes (with walkable SPD cleats) for about $150 at REI - love em!

i used to ride speedplay cleats & pearl izumi shoes, but the cleats wear down too fast, and you can't walk on them without ruining the cleat over the period of a few months.

so whatever you do, i suggest SPD-style cleats, for the comfort factor. sorry i can't be of more help!

Have her go with you and try a bunch on. If it's her first time buying a shoe, comfort over features.

OP - one of my regular reasons to stop at the LBS is to see if they're 'blowin' out' any cycling shoes in my size. It seems like they get tired of boxing and straightening up the older styles/odd sizes and eventually mark them down. The big benefit to this - beyond the price - is getting to try them on before I buy. I don't often find anything worth buying - but when I do, I snap them up. Of course, you aren't going to find Sidi Genius, etc. in the bargain pile - but like I say, it's worth a look.

I found a really good buy on road shoes at Pricepoint. I had been having issues with my feet having massive pain when riding my new Shimano pedals and Shimano Shoes. After a second pair of shoes gave me pain, I discovered it was the pedals. I moved back to Look pedals and my old shoes and since I had lost money on 2 pairs of shoes I could not return, I decided to just find something that fit and was not going to cost me an arm and a leg. I found these on sale for $49 and was quite surprised as I figured they would suck, but would work until I found something else, but they are a really nice shoe and best of all, I did not drop $200+ for them.

I stumbled upon a pair of 07 Genius 5.5s in my size in the colour I wanted with 60 dollars off in my LBS :)

Sidi Mega sizes are a lifesafer if you have wide feet, as cycling shoes are often very narrow. Sidis also seem to be the standard for cycling shoes so it's a win-win. (Although there are other fine brands...)

You have to try on shoes in my opinion. Sidi's did not feel good for me at all, although many people love them. PI's are also quite nice, but none seemed to fit. Shimano's, again, some people say good, but not for me. I ended up going with Specialized - one road, one moutain, and both feel very nice. So...I say try all the brands I mentioned. Figure out which model you like, then surf on the web for deals!

What's funny is that though I am a man of good taste and some means, not much but some, these are still the most expensive shoes of any kind I've ever bought ever. LOL

I agree that you should check out the LBS. I walked into mine and found my size in 2007 Specialized S-work for $120, less then half of their original price.

I am a man of questionable taste and meager means. My Sidis were the most expensive footwear I've ever purchased, as well.

Worth every damned penny and should have stopped being a penny-pincher and bought them a lot sooner than I did.
