Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Part it out or sell it whole

On the horns or a terrible dilemma! What to do, what to do??

The custom Pegoretti Marcelo that I ordered last April looks like it will be arriving soon. I really can't afford to keep both the Orca and the Marcelo as we're having a house built, and that is sucking up funds something fierce, so the Orca's gotta go.

My question is: Should I sell the Orca as a complete bike or strip the parts and use what I can on the Marcelo and sell the Orca frameset and any remaining parts? The '07 Orca is orange with circa 2003 Campy Record and Eurus wheels.

Believe me, I'd love to keep both but that's not looking like a viable option at this point.

I'm also not trying to bypass the "For Sale" forum (note the little red star), I'm just looking for some advice on how to dispose of the Orca and related bits.

Thanks!

If you like the components, move 'em over and sell what's left.

This is the way I was leaning but I know it's attractive to get the whole shebang. I also wanted to know what other's experiences were.

Issue is you can't afford the whole shebang. Therefore part it out for most cash, sell it whole for least hassle.

Ouch! True that. I guess I need to start inventorying the bike and what I can keep.

If your components are decent-high quality (e.g. in gruppos: Ultegra, Dura Ace, Chorus, Record, Force, or Red) and in good shape, part it out!

They're just bikes. I currently have 9, but tomorrow my financial situation could easily change and I'll simply have to let 8 of them go, I keep telling myself. However I don't have a Peg - now that's master craftsmanship & a work of art. All the best.

Sell the Orca frame set transfer the record over. Listing a 07 frame with an 03 group is going to make people look funny at it but the record kit would fit perfect on the pegoretti.

+1

It'll cost you additional money to get a new build kit, and that Campy will be good for a while. So don't lay out any more than you have to.

Thanks for all the comments! I'm going to use what I can off the Orca and sell the frameset and what ever parts are left over.

If you'd otherwise have to buy new parts for the new frame, I think the obvious thing to do would be to move over what you need, then sell the leftovers separately.
