CAAD 9: Is this a good deal?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CAAD 9: Is this a good deal?

I found a new CAAD 9 with Dura Ace front and rear der., Shifters, FSA carbon crank, Ultegra brakes, Mavic Krysrium ES I think, and not sure about the hubs. Its an 07 model for 1699? Is that a good deal?

Yes.
If it fits buy it, hell even if it doesn't fit buy it and part it out on ebay.

Yes. Great deal! I paid 1300 for my CAAD9 with 105 last year so 400 bucks more for a dura ace upgrade and better wheels isn't a bad deal at all!

As long as it fits and is in good condition. The math is pretty obvious on this one.

Its brand new, only thing is I'm on a trek 2100 right now that's a 56, this bike is a 54 but on my 56 with 100mm stem I've always felt a little stretched out on it. Anyone know how a cannondale 54 compares to a Trek 56 geometrically? (My only computer right now is a Blackberry or I'd search for the charts myself) thanks

I rode a 56 trek and have a 56 CAAD9, I could easily fit on a 54 CAAD9 but that"s me and everyone is didderent but you should be OK. Also the wheels that came on mine were Equipe not ES"s.

That is a great deal. My 07 was 1200 for 105 and Ultegra on the RD.

The CAAD9 Optimo 1 had Elite wheels, not ES, but that's not a bad deal at all. The crank is a POS though.

I'd hit it so hard, if you pulled me out, you'd be the King of England.

Oh, wait, this was about a bike, right? Yeah, good deal

Bored at work today, WR?

To the OP -- sounds like a smokin' deal. On the size, if you can, try it out and see if it fits. How tall are you?

Treks run small for the same numerical sizes compared to Cannondale. Check the geometry charts on their websites.
I recall looking at a 58cm Trek, I think it was a Madone, when I was in the market a couple years ago and it was much smaller than a 58cm CAAD8. I believe they measure differently.

I'm 5'10" but I have relatively short arms. I sat on a 54 CAAD 9 today and it felt good. I'm just worried I'm missing something but you're right the differences in a 54 and a 56 are miniscule.

FSA BBs and SLK cranks are junk. Just search or Google "FSA SLK clicking" and similar. Roadbikereview's got lots of complaints too. People will try to tell you the crank takes TLC and have an armload of tricks to get it to shut up. F that; it's not like this crank is something special, and there are plenty of other nothing-special cranks that don't have problems like FSA.

Mine got ripped off and changed to Dura-Ace after 4 or 5 months of putting up with it. Dura-Ace rules.

Can anyone comment on the differences in the ride characteristics or geometry between a bike like the Trek 2100 and a CAAD9?

The Trek frame was designed to meet a consumer price point.

The CAAD9 was designed for the pro peloton and Cannondale hit the price points by varying components.

The conventional wisdom would be that the CAAD is a much more nervous, race-oriented bike. Then again, I test rode a SystemSix and the CAAD felt smooth as butter in comparison.

I've got 5000+ miles on my so called POS FSA crankset and bb, while I would definitely take a DA crankset over the FSA, I haven't had any issues at all with mine, nor has anyone else on my team. I wouldn't let the cranks scare you away from this bike.

Oh, no, the crank is definitely not bad enough to warrant not buying the bike. I'm just saying I'd budget a replacement for down the road, and PBK usually has D-A cheap.

To the OP: buy that thing. I paid $2500 for essentially the same rig back in July.

I go Friday to try it out. As long as the frame will be an upgrade to my Trek and a 54 CAAD fits me as good or better than a 56 Trek then its mine. Should I hold onto the Trek for a while to make sure I really am going to like/fit the CAAD9 or just ebay it asap?
