Giro Lonos, yay or nay ?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giro Lonos, yay or nay ?

Anyone try or use the Giro Lonos helmet? I have an opportunity to get one for the price of an atmos, so was wondering if someone with first hand knowledge could give me a review on them.

It's Ionos. Yay, if for the price of an Atmos (which is still pretty overpriced). I rock Bell Sweep R.
If you don't mind me asking, where can you get it for the price of an Atmos?

It's like the Atmos, but a lot more expensive. The only problem is that nobody has it, so nobody will know how much money you spent on it when you ride with it. I would wait until the cool kids start getting them before buying it. The price should come down even more by then.

While I used to wear an Atmos I never would have paid "full" price for it. I don't see where the Ionos would be a "deal" such a high price either.

Try it on and make sure you like it first, the fit is not the same between the Atmos and Ionos. I didn't like the Ionos at all, but the Atmos is wonderful. My wife has the Ionos and loves it, fit her much better than the Atmos...

Lighter than the Atmos, and has a skull cap thing that you can take in and out. I'm not sure what you're asking though. Why would you get the Atmos when the Ionos would be the same price?

I like my Atmos though, there is no wrong decision.

As I said, they fit different. The Ionos is lighter (not noticeably), but if it doesn't fit right it doesn't matter. Again, try them both before deciding.

Seeing as they are both Giro, that doesn't really help the OP...

I don't need to ask him, I remember this gem (emphasis added)...

Ionos not Lonos, doh ! No wonder i couldnt find anything on a search

And the reason id even think of not buying it over an atmos is that the atmos will be selling for a lot less also. I just didnt know if the Ionos was worth the extra coin.

They fit very different. The Ionos fits like the pneumo.

Bell and Giro are the same company, Bell makes high-end helmets too, and less vents does not equal better protection...

Try it first. Better than spending money on a helmet doesn't fit.

I went to the bike shop to buy a helmet last week, I tried on the Atmos, the Ionos a Specialized and a Bell Sweep R. The Ionos felt good and looked good. The Atmos looked good but didn't really feel good on the noggin. the specialized wasn't perfect but mainley I just couldn't get over the looks of it really. I walked out with the Bell Sweap R, without a doubt it fit me way better than the the others. The other helmets seemed to rub or be tight in one place or another. The Bell just sits on my head perfect and I can't even feel it. They sold me the Bell for $90. Go try em all on before you buy.

Even more so is the fact that sizing drifts between production lots. I rode with an Atmos that fit like a glove, but I had to try many of them on before I found it.

I busted it up in a wreck and when I went to get a new one I had no luck finding one that fit the same again. It is definitely worth the time and effort to try them on.

Wow, id of imagined that a single model would all be produced in a similar mold and be very consistent in manufacture. I' would never guess the same model and size would fit different.

I haven't had that experience. Between my wife and I we've gone through 4 Atmos' and they've all fit exactly the same.

The Ionos doesnt fit like the Atmos so dont base your decision on how the other Giro helmets fit. It doesnt seem to be as flat in the middle, if that makes any sense.
