Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does this make any sense? A Craigslist thread

So normally when I get into work in the morning I peruse Craigslist to see if there is anything interesting on there. Well today I happened across this https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/bik/598135991.html for those who don't click the link basically a guy built up a bike found out it didn't fit right and is now selling the whole bike. The reason this doesn't make sense to me is that presumably he will be building another bike and it would seem to me that rather then sell everything "at cost" it would make more sense to just sell the frame and put all of the components on a new frame.

I've not heard of the frame manufacturer before but I am pretty new to this whole thing. The whole listing just seems odd to me(I know Craigslist and Ebay both have there batch of scam artists so maybe that's all this is). Anyway I'm just curious on the group's thoughts on this. Oh and I wasn't interested in the bike, I have neither the money nor the size (I'm 5'10") for it.

actually it makes perfect sense. If the guy got most of the parts at cost or used for a good price he probably has less than $2,400 inot the bike, but to buy that bike new would cost alot more. So he is making a little coin for his next build by selling a sweet bike at a great price. I've known a few wrenches who will buy laftover parts and frames from the shops that they work at to build the occational bike to make some coin on the side. I myself have dabbled in turning over bikes to make a little bit of pocket money.

Nothing about it screams "scam," though always caveat emptor.

Blue bikes is a real company.
https://www.rideblue.com/index.php
They are the bike sponsor of some of the top ITU traithletes, and the Coltiva-Light continetal team.

Well it seems this is completely normal and I just looked at from the wrong point of view.

Thanks for clearing that up,

I am just curious how you would scam this on craigslist. Every craigslist item I have ever bought I physically went to pick up. So I was able to see the item in person and give my money to someone in person etc.

I'm selling an Ultegra groupset, and posted it on CL to see if I could sell it as a group, before going through the hassle of selling each piece individually on ebay, and some guy from Washington (I'm in Jersey) offered to buy it...he said things that just sounded wrong, like he'd been looking for the item I had for a while (like Ultegra is so rare), and he needed to see pics to see if it's what he needed, etc, and I suspect he was trying to scam me.

I've heard a lot of great things from Blue, but I've never gotten a chance to ride one.

The Blue looks legit. This one however seems too good to be true https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/bik/596725071.html

heck, he should have known that bike would have been too small.

It's a great looking bike though. I've seen them raced.

I've listed several things on CL that ended up being shipped, and haven't had any problems. I always require paypal of course. Seems to me the buyer is the one taking the real risk, not the seller.

Don't know why asking for pics would be suspicious. I would want to see the wear on the teeth, on the brake pads, scratches to indicate more mileage than advertised, etc etc etc.

Not really. 2007 closeout.

A buddy of mine got that exact same frame, fork, seatpost and headset for $800. NIB.
