Lazer helmets
So I ran over my trusty Bell Furio helmet and it [finally] developed a huge, fissue-like crack.
So I go into my LBS, look at some helmets, but there isn't really anything high end, except for a Bell Sweep R or two and a Giro Monza. Nothing too extreme. Since Giro and Bell are pretty plain-jane helmets, I look through our books and spot some Lazer helmets that we can get, and for pretty good prices. How do Lazer helmets fit in comparison to Giro and Bell? Anyone have one? I'm looking at the Genesis. |

Can't justify that unless I get really mad at Giro for something. |
$150? Compared to Giro's offerings, that's a deal, even at MSRP.

I just picked up a Genesis XC Solid in matte CF. I've had it on to play with the fit system but I haven't actually had it out for a long ride yet. I'm waiting for some of the snow to disappear to get off the trainer. And no, I don't ride the trainer with a helmet despite some people thinking I should.
The fit system is kinda cool. It's different than the Giro I've been using with the little red dial adjusting tension easily. The fit system seems to hold a bit better than the Giro I was using, but again with my limited use, take this with a grain of salt. I'll form a better opinion latter in the year. |

I'd like to know also - I think these are the coolest helmets out there:

My Lazer Genesis was comfy and light. Its retention system fell apart after two months of use. I glued it back together, and it fell apart again, in a completely different fashion, after one more month. Flimsy piece of junk.
My Lazer blade was not as comfortable, but it did give a year's service and then made the ultimate sacrifice one day on the pavement. All in all, I won't buy a Lazer again. I now have a Uvex which cost less and is more comfy. |
My son rides with this Lazer helmet:

Hi,
I have two Lazer Genesis helmets so needless to say, I like them. ;) What I like best is the sizing / retention system. The knurled knob adjusts a cable that tightens or loosens the helmet around its entire circumference. This is instead of most systems that I've used in the past that essentially push your head from the back up against the front of the helmet. The Lazer Genesis fits much more comfortably and I can adjust it very easily while riding or racing. |
I tried one of these on today. Sizing is appears to be the same as my Sweep R. I really like the helmet especially the retention system. There was an Ionos right beside it and I liked the Lazer better....especially the black/white one.

But you're not really interested...I suspect you think only tossers discuss helmet coolness and this is your way of getting in a dig. Point taken. |

Good question - especially since I have no sense of style.

Are you the only one not adding anything to the thread?;)

I would love it if some LBS here in cycling dense San Diego would carry anything but only Giro, Bell, Specialized some carry Luis Garneau or UVEX. Where in the country do you find the Lazer or other brands?
|
Helmets are subjective of course but I have to say the new Giro Ionos is extremely comfortable.. this coming from someone with an Atmos that doesnt really like it. The Ionos and Atmos fit nothing alike.

BTW: A lot of LBS's are supplied by QBP. |
You can get the 2007 RD for $119 they have a few diff sizes and colors.
here LINKKKK I have this helmet and like it a lot. The Helmet fits quite comfortably on my skull... +2 on what Cleave & king-tony stated. |
They fit oddly on my noggin'. The closure system feels like it's pulling the skin on my forehead upwards - I end up with my eyebrows pulled up as if I'm surprised  I don't feel like they come down on the forehead enough. They look different, but overpriced IMO. It all really depends on your head. Bell sweep fits nicely on me (Giro so so depending on the model).

Are they for round or oval heads?

Laser helmets are nifty, but I've heard from a couple people that the retention system is a bit flimsy.
