Difference between Ultegra 6500 and 6600 hubs?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well the rear hub would have a 10 speed freehub body for the 6600 and a 9 speed for the 6500. I know you can run a 9 speed cassette on a 10 speed hub though.

I think the 6500 hubs use sealed bearings while, for the 6600 model, Shimano went back to cup and cone bearings. I don't recall ever hearing a complaint about either the 6500 or 6600.

Nope, the 6500s were cup/cone, just like the 6600.

The hub shells on the 6600 are larger diameter compared to the hourglass profile of the 6500 shells.

The 6600 front hub also has extra flange material outside the spoke holes to allow radial lacing. The rear is still not designed for radial lacing.

I believe the 6600 is the next step in the evolution of the seals, but I think either hub is adequately sealed.

Really, I think it comes down to appearance (hour glass vs. straight shell) and the radial option on the front.

<nice one CCFISH81 >
