knee noise

When I am out of the saddle my knee clicks.
No pain,
Should I worry?

This happens to my girlfriend (not while riding though) and she asked her doctor about it. He said if there's no pain there wasn't anything to worry about, but it sounds like yours clicks more than hers does. I'd probably just ask your doctor to be safe.

Many joints click in different individuals, often harmless.
Get it checked out though with your doc, before you put it thru 10,000 more clicks and something escalates.

Yeah, I've heard that same "if it doesn't hurt, it's ok" advice about my ankle, which sounds like it's exploding a couple times/day. Been doing that for 25 years and no problems.

Still, go have your own Dr. tell you this rather than taking medical advice off BF and screwing up your knee for the rest of your life.

I would guess it is not an issue unless there is pain involved. My elbows click when I do pushups. My knee occasionally clicks when I walk. You might want to get your doctor's opinion though, regardless of what opinions you find on the interwebs.

Both my knees do that.... Years of speedskating to blame here (for me).

my left knee started doing that this past year.

before that i had some concerns about my knee, it didn't feel 'solid/secure/normal', but it never developed into a genuine concern.

anyway, the knee keeps cracking, but there's no pain, and i don't notice it while riding, although i have a sneaking suspicion that it would blow out if i was playing soccer, or something of that ilk.

google "crepitus" for voluminous information

last year while on a hilly ride i was out of the saddle climbing. as i was passing :) a dude he said is that your bike making that noise? i said no, it is my knee. later.

Is it a single click or a double click?

My knees sounds like a creeky car door...no pain just low audible creek and clicking sound...

DigitalRJH 03-11-08 01:10 PM

Usually it is just sinovial (sp?) fluid in the joint or tight tendons and / or ligaments "snapping" over the bone as the joint moves that makes the sound. And usually it is harmless, it just makes it hard to sneak up on people.

Ask a doctor to be sure. Better safe then sorry.

my ankles do this all the time. never seen a doctor about it.

Only if a car passes by and driver rolls down his window and points at your knee.

Youngin 03-11-08 05:26 PM

My elbow clicks during push ups. Hmm... ask a doctor, not a bike forum.
