Renting a bike / rides in Vegas?
I'll be staying at the Riviera for a conference Th-S, and don't have anything going on Friday. I have been perusing websites for bike rentals, and came across this one: https://www.procyclery.com/roadtriathlon.htm .
Anyone have experience with procyclery? Also, how hard is it to navigate the city and make it to a decent ride location sans automobile?
Input is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't be too concerned about running out of things to do...running out if money is a very real possibility.
Seriously though, there are definitely some parts of town that you probably wouldn't want to ride through, but that can be said about any major city. You might also want to ask the shop if they recommend any routes.

jeffc7 -- thank you for the link. I think the lew ride is bit out of my budget, but I had looked at riding out by redrock.

I did a fun ride out of Vegas a while ago. Search www.Bikely.com under Las Vegas to Laguna Beach. Lots of other Vegas listings there.

^^ Thank you -- I am leaning toward the RedRock route I think. Somehow, I had never seen Bikely. That is a great site.

I did a half -day Red Rock tour through Las Vegas Cyclery last May. I was very happy with the whole experience. They were super nice people and it was a beautiful ride. They will also come pick you up on the strip.
I would definitely recommend them.

I am going to Las Vegas for a conference in July, and I am going to stay at the Red Rock Resort, and try out the Lew Wheels. They will rent you a bike, with 880 gram wheels to try out!

Pro Cyclery seems to be a good shop. Dealt with them on a couple of things. I would call them up and explain your situation and see what they recommend. Their shop is about 3-4 miles west of your hotel, so if you could get over there you should be able to get out to Red Rocks from there.

Thanks all for the feedback -- I'll be heading over to procyclery in the morning to pick up a Jamis with 105 10spd. Looked at Las Vegas Cyclery, but procyclery was far less expensive ($35.00 for a half day rental as opposed to $55.00 plus extra fees for delivery to hotel). I'll post reactions on my experience after the ride.
I looked at the RedRocks resort Lew deal and would have loved to have done it, but couldn't justify the expense. I would absolutely love to, however.
I hope your experience is telling UNLV -- they were nice to me on the phone, and agreed to mount some keos on the bike when I get there.

I just saw this post and am doing the same thing at the end of the month. Reserved a bike at McGhie's...I've never been to Red Rock so would be interested in your feedback. Thanks and hope you had a great ride...

I go to vegas every 3 months or so. Probably the best ride is the red rock loop, which goes into and out of the park. Cars have to pay to get in, but its free for cyclists, so you can think of it as a deal.
The scenery at red rock is good, but other than that ride, there's not much going for vegas. I've rented from McGhie's before and thought it went well. They're located on ft. apache and flamingo i think, and you can do the red rock loop easily from there. My rental was $45 for a caad8.

Stay alert of the idiot that drives the loop in the WRONG direction. It is supposed to be a one-way road but it can and has happened (because the loop used to be a two lane/two way road so there's plenty of room for someone to drive in the opposite direction for whatever reason).
For the most part, you'll be able to spot these cars from a distance. However, there are some very fun sections with blind corners. If you treat these corners as a one-lane road and work the enter wide-hit-the-apex-exit wide technique, you do so at your own risk. The people I have seen drive the wrong way justify their actions by staying on the left side of the road. Therefore, you may want to consider just slowing down and staying to the right on such corners.

The Red Rock loop is a very nice ride, especially spring/fall.
