It's quite chilly out there ... about -10C with a windchill factor of -14C ... so I'm not motivated to spend half an hour dressing for a ride, or riding in that. Also, the roads aren't in great condition because it snowed last night.

I'm also completely unmotivated to ride inside. I spent the last two weeks of February cycling outside in Australia, and then the weekend after I got back (last weekend) the weather was really nice (about +10C), and I was able to get my March century in very comfortably. Once I've had a taste of cycling outside, it is so hard to go back inside again. Do any of you experience that too??

I couldn't convince myself to ride inside yesterday, when it was snowing ... and I think I've talked myself out of riding inside today too.

I'm long to hit the road again ... another long ride, another tour ... but these will have to wait until it warms up just a bit. I'm looking forward to warm, green, summer days.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what to do about my complete lack of desire to ride inside.

Not a worry!! You had great weather and great riding in Australia -- what a wonderful experience!!!! A couple of approaches are take some time off or try to work through it (even if what you do is relatively little more than going out, spinning a little and heading back home)...trust yourself and go to it. I wish you well :)

They are horrible, aren't they? I did a ride today, and often felt more like I was mountain biking, standing to clear cracks in the road. The sad part is that most of these cracks will still be a nuisance long after the cold goes away. The frost heaves weren't fun either. And it's simply beyond me why the town decided to fill the worst ones with sand--the sand simply turned into sandbars the following day.

I agree that this weekends weather was disappointing after last weekends little treat. However, I am highly motivated to train this time of year as I know the roads will be dry again soon. Last weekend was just a little taste of the carrot I'm chasing on my trainer...

Well, thank goodness for pre-paid spinning classes. My desire to make the most of my money influenced me to go to my spinning class today ... even though the instructor was late, and it was a different instructor than I'm used to.

Enthalpic, what are you training for?

Easy, just veg out in front of the tube and munch on unhealthy snacks.

The first day will be fun, but this will get old pretty quick. Your brain will just hate watching the deterioration (which in reality will be almost insignificant) and it will tell you you've worked too long and hard to become a couch potato. In addition, your body will be begging for a ride. You'll go out and feel great.

I motivate myself to ride inside by imagining the faceless people who are not riding, whose souls I will subsequently crush.
