Any Western Mass. Riders here?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Western Mass. Riders here?

Thinking of riding home from VT to my wife's place in CT this summer. Long trip. At least 250mi.

I know Rt7 in CT and VT well. Easily rideable. Wondering what Rt 7 is like in Western MA and what parts of the state to avoid and take an alternate route.

And for any central MA riders...thinking of also riding to the CT coast from VT. What is the best North/South route to get me east of Springfield, but West of Sturbridge or approximately in that area.

Thanks!
