Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

USED TREK 7500 FX questions...?

I have found a used Trek 7500 FX it is a medium gray color, I think it is a 2002.

They are asking 350.00 for it and it seems to be in good shape.
This would be my first "real" bike... I was wondering if this is a good price for a 5 -6 year old bike?
Also how would this bike compare to current Trek bikes?

Thanks for your help,

I don't think they made that bike then. Are you sure it's a FX series? or is it the multitrak type.

Would need to see a full shot, but the fork is a rigid so that would be the FX series. Probably more like a 2005 or better. If it is in good shape I'd offer 250 and see if they would meet in the middle.

I agree on the $250. Isn't that only around a $450 bike new in 2005 anyway?

I think after 2006 they changed 7500FX to 7.5FX to avoid confusion with the 7000 series Multi-Trak bikes. My friend has a 2006 7300FX - that year's equivalent of a 7.3FX.
The Trek website has bike archives going back to 2003 I think - this is the 2003 version 7500FX.

Left-Over Trek 7500 FX w/ Disc Brakes?

My LBS has a left-over Trek 7500 FX w/ disc brakes for $450. Can anyone tell me if 2004 was the last year for this model and if they think it's a decent price? I've never owned a hybrid so I don't know much about them. Also, any thoughts on disc brakes? Thanks

I bought the 7300fx brand new in '05 for just under $400. If memory serves, the 7500fx was a couple hundred bucks more, so I'd assume about $600 brand new. IMHO, $350 is slightly steep unless there's something "special" about it. You could probably easily talk the seller down to $300 and maybe as low as $250 if he wants to dump the bike.

All that being said, I used my bike for 3 seasons and it was great. Now it's my backup/bad-weather bike. It's a small risk to take to get into the sport to see if you like it. If you do, in a couple years, you'll most likely be looking at dropping a whole lot more money anyway.
