Well I'm just training to get stronger in general, hopefully this summer i'll be training for tris. Typically I do some good long rides on the weekends and wake up at 6 am to ride during the week.
I really don't know what level i'm at, i've held mine on 71 mile rides, people have been saying i progress fast but i still consider myself a noob.

posting in the socal forum will be much more helpful for you...
you have lots of options in the valley area, from recreation clubs like sfvbc to race training rides like montrose ride and the rose bowl ride if you want to improve.
give up on tris, cycling is the one true sport, don't *******ize it with running and swimming. start road racing and you'll see...

Many of my routes start in Pasadena but are easily reachable from Burbank.

There is a ride that meets at Warner Records on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30. Also, on Sundays there is a ride that meets at the LA Zoo parking lot at 8:30. Both would give you a chance to meet local riders. You can also check out socalcycling.com for rides and local teams.

I concur that the SFV is a great place to ride. Griffith Park is exceptional. If you like long distances, yesterday I rode from Burbank to Thousand Oaks and back. That was good for 82 miles.
I was a member of the SFVBC many years ago, you should definitely check it out someday. They schedule rides throughout the Valley. Most are in the West Valley, but some will touch the Burbank area and beyond.

photonick, check out the SFVBC website and join us for a ride. Every Saturday and Sunday we have several rides starting at CSUN. Most of us do a short, social ride on Sunday. You don't have to be a member, just show up.

I also live in Burbank. My regular rides...
Short rides
-Glenoaks to La Tuna Canyon and up to La Crescenta/Montrose, down Verdugo and back through Glendale
-up on the closed roads in Griffith Park (still not the same since the fire though)
-through Glendale and up Chevy Chase Dr... follow your nose until you want to go home
-over Griffith Park and across the Hollywood Hills, up Beachwood/Ledgewood to the reservoir and down Barham
Longer
-N on Glenoaks to Osborne to Little Tujunga. Easy to improvise once you're up there. You can go to Placerita Cyn and either turn around or come back via Newhall Pass and San Fernando Blvd
-past Universal Studios and up to Mulholland all the way out to the west Valley. If you have a cyclocross bike you can take the dirt section out to Topanga. I generally don't like bike paths but the one next to the Orange Line can be a convenient return route.
Naturally there are some others.

I was a member back in the very early 90's. Then I got married and found myself taking shorter rides with my wife. Now my wife and daughter sleep in on weekends which leaves me time for a long ride either Sat or Sun.
