Frame flex on Giant TCR carbon

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame flex on Giant TCR carbon

K - Not too concerned about this but more curious, plus its been slow on the forums lately, so I thought I'd throw this out there with some pics.

I've had two TCR's now. I had an 08:

was a little big for me so I sold the frame and got a killer deal on an 06:

To my surprise, I always felt like the 06 was stiffer than the 08. To be honest I could feel the frame flex on the 08, when motoring up hills especially. Although I wonder how bad of a thing frame flex really is, since it was also one of the fastest climbing bikes I've had.
I literally set PR's on some of my hill climbs on the 08 frame, despite any frame flex I thought I was picking up on. The '06 has always felt pretty solid to me though.

However, I ran into a buddy at a lbs yesterday. He has this same frame as my 06 (although I think his is an 05) and complains about the BB flex. I swear I can't feel it on mine (course his two other bikes are a Cervelo R3 and Tarmac SL)

Anyway - I know a lot of you guys have this same frame and wanted to see what your comments were regarding overall frame stiffness.

I got an 04 TCR C2 frame (https://archive.giant-bicycles.com/uk...004&model=9977).... so I think it's identical to your 06. I'm 140-145 lbs and never experienced any BB flex. I'm pretty happy with the bike, I got it off someone last summer and it has a number of upgrades from stock. Before I got the bike I tried a few Specialized bikes and I'm pretty sure the Tarmac has more flex.... and I also experienced BB flex on it quite a bit. The Tarmac did feel faster than my Giant.... but I don't know if it's just in my head or if it actully was faster.

So what would you say, are you happier with the 06 or would you rather have the 08 and the faster climbs?

I haven't really put the 06 through its paces on climbs. Right now I'm trying to get the motor back in shape anyway. I was sick and then traveling so I wasn't on the bike much for a while. I'm not going to be hitting any PR's anytime too soon. The 06 fits me better though, so that's worth a lot right there.
