Trek Project One Value
I was looking at Craigslist and saw this bike that I remember eyeing back last summer. At FreeFlite Bicycles they had a Trek Project One simular to this one and loved it. I was an 07 5.2. It disepeared in no time but now I have found the exact same bike from the guy who bought it, he said thats where and when he got it. He says its got about 2- 300 miles on it and he put a Fizik Alliante on it. He's asking $2250 for it and that sounds a bit steep to me. Its not likely I will end up with it but its possible and so thats why I'm here asking this question.

I was asking just to see if it was worth it to ask him to come down some. I know that he didn't pay full price for it new. It is a special project one but the 07 Madone 5.2s are going for like $1899 now new.

Given the popularity of Treks, the Project One is a lousy scheme to get people who want Treks but doesn't want the exact Trek as the next guy in group rides.

I won't go quite as far as a saying rip-off, but IMO the paint doesn't add much value. If you question that you are paying to much, you probably are.

Couple things on the new 2008 Madones: only the 6.x series (OCLV Red) forks are all carbon.
Brandnew Madone for 1800 or a P1 for 2200? I am going for new any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Trek's warranty is one of the best in the business, coupled with a pretty wide base of LBS support to back it up, but that applies to original owner only.
P1 is for riders to try and get a personal touch on paint (not worth it for me, but I can understand it) and for riders to custom build their bikes: you want Campy Record, no problem. However, that being said, I actually feel that a P1 bike's paint detracts, rather than adds, value from the bike.
Just a rant about CL and Ebay: deals can be found, but this ain't one of them. People try to sell used for near or more than new!
