Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clipless pedal materials

Does it make a difference what material your pedals are made of (Chrome-Moly,Stainless,Titanium , etc) other than weight and price, are some more durable than others and is this a big difference ?

Some companies will put better bearings in their higher end pedals. Some will have rider weight limits on their lightest weight pedals. Other than the weight limits, strength shouldn't be an issue.

I'd guess that the only real difference is weight. The cheap steel pedals are probably the most durable in many cases. I've had the cheapest SPD-SL pedals for 15,000kms or so and they are holding up fine.

Speedplay does a nice job explaining their differences:

https://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.x

I went with the X2 stainless steel over the X5 cromoly because they have more effective bearing support (2 instead of 1). No difference, other than weight, when compared to X1 Ti.

I ended up going with speedplay because of the float they offer and that remains the same regardless of material.
