Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A Spinaci query?

A few of us were talking about the old Cinelli Spinaci bars from some years back. The consensus was that we'd ride them again if we could get clamps for oversized bars.
There's a CNC/machining company about 20 minutes from here that said, over the phone, that they would likely be able to produce a proper clamp for O/S bars. I'm going to take them a bar and the Spinacis to see if they can actually do it. If nothing else,

Do any of you guys have any interest in these clamps, if they aren't completely price prohibitive? Just throwing it out there...

Are they anything like these Cane Creek "Speed Bars"?

The Cane Creeks's are generally mass-start USCF legal, as long as you mount them as pictured above.

How about the Spinaci's?

Am I walking into an April Fool's thread here?

Anyways the Scott bars are not like the Spinacis. I have the Nashbar copy of Spinacis on one bike and like them. Of course one reason I like them is that they're cheap. I'd imagine custom clamps would change that. The UCI outlawed Spinaci though Cinelli protested and many riders use a very similar position when they put their forearms on their bar flats. You do not have to have the clip-ons pointing up, they're adjustable.

I mounted some Cinelli Spinacissimis on oversized bars, I just had to spread them slightly to mount them on the narrow part of the bar:

(Not my bars above)

Nice to have on long solo rides. I still have them in the garage somewhere.
