So this Giant TCR I got on ebay:

The listing says it's sub 16# w/ pedals. I put it on a postal scale today and it weighed in at 17.5# w/ Dura ace pedals. Also, the description says it's a 2006 model when in actuality, I only now realize that it's a 2005.

Would you folks make a stink about it, or should I just let it slide?

BTW, this is a pretty awesome bike. I'll give a quick first impression. I used to own a Trek 5200 to compare to and this feels much more responsive. The Trek was Ultegra, this is my first time with modern Record. Still getting used to the "crunch" and slamming down or up a handful of gears as opposed to the subtle "click" and fluid one at a time shifts of Shimano. In hindsight, the 5200 did feel wooden compared to this. The Giant is harsher over road imperfections but instantly lurches forward with sprints.

I would complain a bit, see if the seller would throw you a bone, but not really take it farther than that if you're happy overall with the bike.

You got a great bike at a good price. I'd be hapy with it. FWIW - mine is the same year and it has taken me since I bought it to get it to 17#s. Be happy you were saved all the work.

Maybe just ask for the shipping fee back or something. Like frunkin said, I wouldn't raise too much of a stink.

I brought up a couple of things on my bike and the guy was great about it. He sent me a new 53t Dura Ace ring to replace the one I had to make up for the issues. He completely understood.

Yeah the guy has been on ebay for six years and has a 100% positive rep. He might want to protect that for the future, give him a msg and see what he says.

eBay is notorious for those little white lies. In this case, they're not too bad. But after dozens of transactions where each time the seller 'embellishes' their listing, the aggregate effect of being lied to repeatedly has been the source of some consternation for me. So, is it worth it to get stinky about this one sale? I don't think so. But I would say that you can expect similiar dubious information from at least half the eBay sellers, as disillusioning as that may be. I've been using Craig's List quite a bit lately and like the fact that one can inspect one's prospective purchase prior to committing, thereby somewhat mitigating seller responsibility for accurate ad content.

if your happy with the bike, send a friendly message and see what happens.
if you're not, then pack it up and ship it back.
There's too many a/holes on ebay these days and ebay's changed it's policies in recent months.
It's just not fun anymore.

You can add up all the components yourself and come up with a weight.

I always am skeptical of eBay ads that sound way too "used car salesman" to me. If everything is 100% positive they are probably hiding something.

Me, I would not even mention it. Looks like a nice bike at a fair price and you like the bike. Time to ride and move on.

It was probably purchased in 2006. I have seen descriptions that conflicted with the summary. It was obvious that the seller bought NOS that was older than advertised. I think it is a case of just not knowing any better.

Heck, I even saw a guy advertising a Waterford as new per the summary and then stated in the description that he had sent it back to Waterford for repaint. You don't send a new bike back for repaint. I called him on it and he referenced his record of hundreds of E-bay sale versus my couple of dozen. I replied back that it did not take any E-bay transactions to determine the bike was not new. He finally said he would change it just for me!

I am very careful on E-bay. But there are some good deals to be had. As long as there are not significant differences between a 2005 & 2006, the bike is in good condition, and you got a good price I would not complain.
