How green is your cycling habit?
Anytime you ride a bicycle, you're building up some serious green karma, and we salute you. But there's green and then there's really green. Pick the answers that most closely fit your cycling style and find out just how green your bicycle riding really is.
Interesting quiz from the Sierra Club: https://www.sierraclub.org/howgreen/bikeride/
I got a 91 - guess my fredilicious dynohub & steel bike are way green. Not owning a car helps too.

Uber Goober
So does driving 80 miles in an SUV so you can ride 60 miles on a bicycle count against you?

82 for me, although honestly I wouldn't consider myself a "green" cyclist. I think the 80%+ should be given to those using their bikes as the main mode of transportation.

+1 it's not green at all unless it serves a purpose.
Unless it's an offsetting argument... "I used to smelt aluminum at weekends before I discovered cycling"

93. Apparently I should be using rechargeable batteries in my Superflash (which I will do, if the alkalines it came with ever die). On the other hand, they will only pry my aerodynamic miracle fibers from my cold dead hands.
And as I'm planning to do some *gasp* recreational riding after purchasing a *gasp* nice new road machine this summer, my green cycling rating is about to plummet like a rock.

Most ridiculous part:
When it starts to get dark I...
Your Answer: Don't ride my bike.
5 out of 10 points.
Pardon me? I do all my training rides during the day, so I don't use ANY electricity while riding EVER. I understand that they assume I'm substituting driving at night for riding at night, but that's wrong.

84, using stats for my main bike. Too bad you can't factor in all your cycling styles.
Edit: Bah, my partner got 100%. She's way more green than me!

The where do you ride question is kind of stupid. I ride on deserted country roads because I live in Iowa and the roads for the most part are pretty deserted and in the country.
I got an 87

Scoring so high on a Sierra Club test makes me want to hurl though. I am not riding my bike to save the planet, I ride it to save myself.

For the record, here's Sierra's off-road biking policy. Looks a bit more nuanced than "let's make mountain biking illegal.." And since it's from 1994 I don't think they're really gotten anywhere with it. Just sayin.

If it is the quiz I did through another forum, I don't like the way it is set up ... does this one ask what our main type of cycling is, what we do with our main type of cycling?
My problem with it is that I do all sorts of different kinds of cycling. My main type of cycling might be long distance cycling (which apparently isn't very green), but I also commute (and that is apparently green).

I scored an 89, by the way, after amending a response when I realised that their definitions of 'neighbourhood' and 'country road' are inadequate to describe my riding. The country roads most of my riding occurs on start about 150 metres from my front gate! I'll score higher when I finally get around to fitting the bike with lights, I'd imagine.
It's a rather meaningless test, as most online tests are, but it's a fun diversion.
