The dropouts are out-of-this-world beautiful.
Though I tend to agree that if its something you don't want/didn't expect, what's the harm in asking?
I'm not sure how hurt Dario's muse might be, but from your post you seem resigned to the fact it can't be changed.
FWIW, gorgeous frame, even with that straightforward paint job.

The frame's growing on me. I can't wait to ride it knowing that it was made for me!

Thanks! I've been in touch with the bike shop and we've come to an understanding.

Looks like you got "Miro red," exactly.

The best line in the movie. Paul Dooley was perfect.

I guess you wanted more flash. His frames are the best steel being made IMO. Your nuts to even be kinda on the fence w/ it.

That's bad news about your frame. Back when I was riding an SLX frameset (a Tommaso) the dirty secret was that Italian frames had crummy paint jobs..and that included DeRosa's, Ciocc's and other big names. Guys like Joe Bell and Cycleart did a lot of very business repainting of them. Sounds like the old world tradition continues!

To take the 'art' tack, I think you got a nice take on the Miro thing. Definitely the Miro vermillion, and the lettering is also from his pallette...one of those deep electric blues he used. A much more sophisticated take, IMO, than gee-gawing the frame up with little Miro figures, which would be both tacky, above and beyond effort, and, frankly, a bit plagiaristic? You'd also get tired of it really fast. As a purist approach, this turns the frame itself into one of Miro's creatures. I dig the hell out of it. Sure, they could have done some fades, spots, lines...okay, so maybe they could have given it some more thought. Hire me next time and I'll do a few studies for you to send them. ;)

Honestly, having seen some of the wilder Pegoretti paint jobs over the last few months (no offense intended to MadeInItaly or others), I prefer the simpler paint job that your's has. Are there any pictures of the completed build?

MadeInItaly 08-03-08 08:39 AM

No offense takin. I would have gone w/ black or white lettering on that frame.

erliuic 08-03-08 09:54 AM

Post pics after you build it! Keep it classic :-)

Someone care to explain why these bikes are somehow better than, say, a Master X-Light or a Neo Primato? They look like plain-jane TIG'd steel frames with over-the-top paint.

Agreed.

This thread reminded me of when I purchased a mountain bike back in the late 80's. There were two paint jobs to choose from. One was a tasteful white and blue design, with a little bit of purple. The other was a hideous snot green color. While it should be obvious which one I chose, I still recall being called " a color wuss" because of my selection! I guess some habits never change. ;)

You have obviously never been on one. I have a master XL . And a nice one at that . Nice bike , but apples and oranges IMO . Do yourself a favor . Find someone who has one in your size and ride it. Try to find a BLE or Marcelo. You will sell your mama to get one. I just ordered another.
