Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like my Trek 1500 w/ 105 drivetrain. Crappy brakes but it has been a good bike for the $1,049 I spent on it.

My lbs had a 105 equipped Felt on sale for 599 or so. Don't know which model it was only that it was a 2007, red and aluminum. I was going to get it for my wife but they didn't have any smalls left.
Check around with all of your bike stores to see what deals they can cut you.

If you're comfortable going mail order, the new Neuvation bike with 105 looks mighty tempting...

I've searched all over, different brands, etc, and have my eye on the Giant OCR1. It has all 105 componentry, as far as I can tell, and is cheaper than the competition. $1175

What do you think of the OCR1? Are there other bikes that are a better deal?

I also looked at the Mercier Corvus, which, with shipping, would run $750 or so. After reading all of the horror stories about BikesDirect and Mercier, however, I'm second guessing that.

Any input/comments are appreciated.

If I could go back to choosing my 1st bike, I'd probably get a CAAD9 as well, instead of the OCR.

Did a search but couldn't find anything. Anyone know who makes the frame for Neuvation's new bikes?

U'll need a new set of brifters but thats easy to get.

or...

https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...05+Kit+07.aspx

Personally i have a scott SUB20 that is the cheapest thing this guys have for road and commuting, the bike is solid and quite responsive, regarding the sportster, i havent heard anything but good comments about it besides, loks like it has racing geometry, thing i havent check, the bianchi has carbon seatstays and carbon fork that could be very good for long rides.

Thanks.

Felt Z70 with all 105 for '08. If you can find a new '07 it has Ultegra R/Derailleur for same price as '08

That's a killer deal on the Cannondale. I can't speak for the Pinarello. Make sure either way that it's a full 105 setups (i.e. not just the deraillers and shifters w/ everything else being generic crap).

I'd say Specialized Allez. But go ride a bunch and see what you think.
That Allez is something else. The frame has features that are a price bracket higher... LBS has it for $1050. I tried it and it fit great (assuming I can swap out the handlebar stem for one 1-2 cm shorter). Definitely gave me that same feeling as finding a shoe that fits perfectly... "Ahhhhhhhh....."

It had Tiagra level components, but I couldn't tell much difference from the 105 bikes I've tried. I think the Allez seemed a bit better rounded overall, but (aside from the frame) didn't have any knockout componentry.

what do you guys think? Allez for $1050?

Jamis Quest.
Try to get an 07 if you can find one.
This bike is quite light and it is steel and has eyelets so you could commute with it.
I have an 07' (a classic frame geometry) and I love it. It came with 105 components, an FSA gossamer with the fancy new Bottom bracket type. And it is 10 speed. Great bike, I got mine for $900 bucks on ebay. New in manufacturers box, never taken out or assembled.

If you mean the Allez Elite (which I assume you do: Tiagra STI's, FD, and 105 RD) then 1050 sounds like a good deal. If it's the normal Allez then 1050's a little high.

In the 105 price range, it seems that Specialized > Trek. Will I get slammed for saying this?

Well if you want CF the Giant TCR C3 is though to beat. I'm biased though.

I agree. Felt F75 is a lot of bike for the money. 105/Ultegra for $1399.

F75s used to be our rental bikes, and they stood up to a lot of use. We're moving them out now and upgrading to Z65s with full Ultegra—a nice step up for a little more money.

Indeed I do mean the Allez Elite. $1050 is the best deal (for the bike quality) in my area out of the several I've test ridden. Unfortunately, the Cannondales are just simply out of my price range...

My wife put a ceiling of $1200 on this expenditure.

+1 to Jamis. If you have a dealer in your area test ride the 2008 Ventura Race.
