Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it common for roadies to be rude?

So I show up for the first bike class of the season and this older yuppie guy on a Klein stares at my bike and looks down on it. I thought it was funny. My bike is a rushhour and Im running it single speed. I wouldnt trade it for his Klein, thats just me though. Everyone else there was very cool. It was the hardest workout Ive ever had but I had a great time and managed not to get completely droped. Oh yea this outher guy I was riding in with said "OH your a fixed freak!" lol Later, Triumph

if you are riding fixed gear, people look down on it because it dangerous in groups. fixed gear bikes dont stop as fast and are harder to handle, especially in pack riding. thats why you cant race on them.

You were lucky. Our cycling club refuses to let anyone ride if he doesn't have at least a $5k bicycle. Once somebody showed up with a steel bike with fenders, so we beat him up and took his lunch money.

I think some roadies are *******s, sometimes I wave and they will ignore me, some roadies wave back or wave first. I come from riding motorcycles and its common to wave to other motorcyclist. Its either that the other roadies are in a state where they are pushing so hard that they don't acknowledge me or they are just asses.

I go out of my way to be rude to other cyclists, who generally tend to be insufferable dweebs of every description. Actually they remind me of myself, and I don't want any part of that friggin action.

What does the mirror on the wall say to you?

Oddly, I could take or leave the whole waving thing. But random pedestrians or people doing yardwork or such I almost always make an effort to smile and bid them good day.

Yes - we are all very rude. For the record, I hate you. I hate your mother. I hate that wretched father who spawned you. I hate whatever crude circumstances brought them together to concieve you. If I ever see you, I will spit on you. If I ever see your parents, I will spit on them. Oh yeah, I hate this thread too. Whenever I log onto this site and see this thread I will spit on it. I will go out tomorrow and buy a cat and name it after you. Then, whenever i see it, I will spit on it.

(I hate you)

Edit - I also hate "Making", see post #19

I posted this on another thread, but what the hell, I'll post it again.

I am trying to comprehend why anyone would be offended or upset that someone, whom they do not know or have no connection to, is, in the offended person’s opinion, acting like a snob.

The stated case typically goes along the lines that someone was riding their bicycle. They came upon another cyclist and offered a greeting. The other cyclist did not return the greeting, and therefore that other cyclist is a snob, because they are (pick one item from the list)
  • a roadie
  • not a roadie
  • wearing spandex
  • not wearing spandex
  • using a mirror
  • refusing to use a mirror
  • riding with their knees pointing sideways
  • riding an expensive bike
  • riding a very expensive bike
  • riding a bike more expensive than that of the offended
  • a man
  • a woman
  • a manly woman
  • riding too fast
  • riding too slow
  • ugly
  • pretty
  • pretty ugly
  • fat
  • thin
  • (Other) ____________
If the failure of another person to return your greeting, whether you know this person or not, bothers you so much that you need post about is online, then you have some serious issues and need to seek professional mental help and you need to seek that help NOW!

Quit freaking whining that people are being rude to you. Grow a pair and stop looking pathetic and maybe it won't seem like everyone is picking on you...
