CAAD9-1 $1700 Deal or no Deal?

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Sounds decent...remember, it is not a deal if it is not to your liking...make sure fit and everythng else is right enough for you...also, it rarely hurts to ask for anything, particularly in this economy...if you don't ask, nothing better coming your way is guaranteed...when you ask, then there is opportunity to strike a better deal...perhaps one that will result in you buying and the store in selling...maybe without any further negotiations, the deal will not happen between the two of you and that bike may keep sitting on the lot and you may go elsewhere...who knows?

Why the hell are so many companies cheaping and putting that dreadful SL-K on there? That would be a deal breaker for me.

My Cdale Slice TT bike has a Cannondale Carbon crankset made by FSA for them. It looks and works great so far (had the bike for nearly a year).

I'd hit that for the 400 bucks more.

The wheels and component upgrade is worth atleast 2x that.

I think it's a great bike. The only thing that caught my eye is the wheels. Just one guy's opinion, but I think they are a little on the low-end side for that frame and components. IOW, I think the bike deserves better wheels, at least one step up in the Ksyrium line (like the SL or ES). If I were buying the bike I'd try to upgrade the wheels one step or so as part of the deal or for a couple hundred more - because you will eventually want to do it. Again, just an opinion. Those aren't BAD wheels, they're fine. But not "quite" what a CAAD frame with Dura Ace deserves.

As for bargaining. My opinion is that everything is worth asking the question: is that your best price? Everything, everywhere. I've negotiated powertool prices at the local builder's supply. A lot of times they will just say that's it, but often they won't drop the price, but you can get them to throw in a $50-100+ essential accessories such as bottle cages, pump, helmet, etc. If this happened, I'd forego all that stuff and make a serious effort at getting a wheel upgrade rather than a price decrease.

That's not bad. If my LBS had that when I got my CAAD9-3, I would have bought it. Just a side note, give those Maxxis tires a go first. I've been riding on some of the Xenith Hors Categorie and they handle and feel a lot like Michelin Krylion's. Yes, bargain, if they want to sell it, they will bargain back.

Did you take it out for a spin? The specs look like a pretty nice price, as others have said -- if it feels right in the saddle, sounds like a good deal.

Did it not feel too stretched out? I'm the same height and preferred the 50. If it feels good, I think its a good deal.
