OCP question

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OCP question

Kicking around ideas for new wheels still, and although marginally heavier, Velocity Deep Vs do come in a cool variety of colours. Do you think red rims with black hubs/spokes would be too much with this frame? How about red rims, silver hubs/spokes? (Black saddle/bars, silver 08 centaur group). If i get black hubs/spoke, reckon silver brakes will look silly?

...or should i just get nondescript black rims?

Personally, yes. But some Ksyrium ES with the red hubs and single red spoke would look hawt.

Wheel budget is unfortunately only $400 though, and i need something bomb proof to handle the ****ty Ohio roads. Plus, i like the look of 30mm rims.

someone who has no interest in the whole OCP schtick, and believes that big tex was right, when he let his ghost writer title his book "it's not about the bike".

so yes... apparently that includes me.

With the budget i bring to the sport, it could never be about the bike.

However, since it costs me nothing extra to get red 30mm rims over black ones, i see no harm in toying with the idea based on looks.

So I take it you're riding an eyesore and you want everybody else to do the same.

you're probably surprised more thought hasn't been given to the colour of the spoke nipples.

Well there ya go! Another idea for ya. Maybe steal an idea from Mavic and have one red spoke with white rims. Oh, this is fun!

As the proud owner of a My Little Fixie, I say white rims, silver spokes and hubs, red spoke nipples.

Get some subtlety going on there.

I would say either go with red Fulcrums, or if you choose to stay with white and black, a set of AC-420's.

Fulcrums would look very shweet.

Lots of places. Probably one of the most widely available rims around. Just google "Velocity Deep V". They;re slightly heavier than niobium 30mm rims, but if you want colors, they're a good choice.

Fulcrums are nice, but i can only afford the 7's, maybe the 5's if they're on sale somewhere.....and i can get deep v laced to nicer hubs built locally with local support for less.
