Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very nice. Makes me regret not ponying up the extra $30 for the paint job.

Enjoy it!

I think I saw a guy on one of these in a race I was doing on Sunday. I forgot to ask him if it was a pedal force. He attacked hard at 2 miles before the base of a 8 mile 10% climb. He seemed like a nice fellow, and I felt bad for him : (.

OK, finished the build. Specs:
58cm frame.
SRAM Force Group Buy
You guess what the wheels are...

Looks like it's right around 17lbs. I'll probably take it on the shakedown cruise this weekend. I was thinking about taking the decals off the wheels, but I might leave them on for Pcad's sake...

Man, I gotta say... I own the RS and the ZX3 (both from past group buys) but in these most of these RS2 pictures I'm seeing the bike looks, I dunno, FUGLY as hell.

the thing is the RS2 looks too thin overall
the top tube curve is just funky, and on the smaller frames the curve is excessive, almost like a compact frame.
kb5gl's is pretty good in my opinion.
but, the main thing in my opinion is that it looks like a thin, bent frame. i guess its light though, hell lighter than my frame.

Here's my submission. My stoker couldn't make it out today so I got to ride the RS2 on it's maiden voyage. WOW, WOW, WOW. Comfortable from the get go, needed one saddle adjustment then I settled right in. As others have said it's like having a bike with suspension, great road isolation but get up out of the saddle and man handle the bars and pound on the pedals everything stays put, solid. Best bike I've ever ridden. These are first impressions over a short 16 mile ride but I have to say I felt like the bike just disappeared under me. A note on the RED drivetrain. I have seen reviews of people having shift/setup problems or noisey shifting, what are they talking about********** The shifting came into adjustment faster than any bike I have ever built. One minor adjustment on the front derailleur then the thing worked with no problems the rest of the ride. Any bike i have built prior to this has required a bit of massaging to get it right, it's expected. Either I've gotten good or SRAM has a great system, me thinks the latterQ! Noisey shifting, give me a break! I was very anxous buying a bike with no data points to form ride imppressions. I think I have lucked out and I'm going to be very happy. I'll be interested to hear what others have to say.

Good to hear. I suspected that some folks either did not adjust something correctly or are more apt to exaggerate [minor] things (shift noise, chain noise etc). "The pros do it" is not a viable reason to do something. It may just be a question of tolerance or appreciation for "different" things.

For example, I love the buzz of my CK hub. I have seen some on here go on about about how annoying this is ..

I finish my build sometime this week. Not really rushing to get it done; I have 4 other bikes, you see, and 3 are rideable. I'll report back then ..

The RS2 is 99% done. I wanted to go with a ritchey WCS wet black seat post to match my bars and stem. The wet black finish is described justly and as such goes nicely with the glossy bare frame.

Alas, 4 different people tried to sell me something they didn't have in stock including PBK. Today it was simply too nice out to ignore (sunny and 80) so i went down to the LBS and bought what they had, a cheap Easton. It's not exactly glossy, but it doesn't look too bad. I was upset i couldn't afford to buy some better wheels because had i done so i would have made them black. Truth of the matter is that they really go well with the rest of the DA components i think.

All DA
Cheese wheels ( )
16.4lbs

I was able to fit in 20 miles today. Felt great. Bike absorbed the road a bit better than my Leader i would say and seemed to handle nicely. Rock stable down hills. Jumps up to speed.

It's really hard for me to be objective though as this is, overall, a much improved bike from my last. All i know is that anyone who says that 105 shifts as nicely as DA is fooling themselves. I suspect its all in the brifters...

Now that I'm seeing some larger bikes, I take back what I said earlier. Some of these bikes look very, very nice. The little bend in the top tube right where it meets the seat tube still looks a little "off" to me, but in the larger frames it's much less pronounced.

I was with you then and still am now. I think this thing needs a bit of a more aggressive setup to look right.

Gruoppo:
-Rear Half: Ultegra SL
-Front Half: Ultegra
-Crank R700
Seat: Toupe
Ritchey bars & stem, which accounts for 80% of all the logos.
Wheels: Williams 19
Garmin: 305 w/extras
Weight: Not a lot, but it will be less when 2008 SRAM stuff is out

Ride: Very comfortable. I am super stoked about the sizing. I thought it would be too small, but it's damn near perfect. This thing rides like it's on marsh mellows. It deceiving how nice of a ride it is, even when your putting the power down it doesn't feel like it. That is going to take some getting used to.

Nice build. I went the stealth look but I really like the red version of the RS2.

Well done.

Nice one proximo. Looks a lot like mine. lol
Honestly the overhandling has impressed me. the ride is real nice, and I am 203 lbs and when I romp on it, it doesn't seem to bother it much.

Well, here is mine....

The bike came in at 15.6 pounds on the LBS hanging scale, with pedals and cages. I really didn't go weight weenie with it either like my other bike. My 52cm PF RS2 frame weighed 955 grams. The matching fork weighed in at a paltry 366 grams uncut. The 350 x 31.6 seat post was 205 grams (a bit disappointing). I rode it 35.5 miles today and will do a "first ride impression" post later tonight or sometime tommorow.

I ended up with the following "build" parts:

Shimano Dura-Ace shifters
Shimano Dura-Ace front derailler
Shimano Dura-Ace rear derailler
Shimano Dura-Ace 11-23 cassette
Shimano Dura-Ace cables
FSA K-Force Light carbon 52/38 crankset
FSA bottom bracket with ceramic bearings
FSA Orbit headset
FSA compression plug
FSA OS-99 100mm carbon wrapped stem
FSA K-Force Light compact bars
Specialized Roubaix bar tape
PF 31.6mm carbon seat post
Selle Italia red SLR saddle
Bontrager "Speed Limit" brake calipers
Aspire Velotech carbon/Ti QR skewers
Aspire Velotech carbon bottle cages
2008 Mavic Kysrium SLs
Hutchinson Fusion 2 tires
Look Keo Carbon/Ti pedals
Sigma 2006 MHR computer

Total investment including $125.00 LBS assembly, frameset and parts: $2,478.00 (not including the Mavic wheels which I already had).

Here's some pictures:
