Is weight a consideration for fixies?
Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a fixed-gear bike. I'm new to this forum so I've been living in the stickied posts but was unable to find anything pertaining to the weight of fixies. I assumed that most people customize theirs but what about off the peg bikes like the LeMond Fillmore? It's been a toss-up between the Fillmore and the (gasp) Langster so I'd be interesting in the weights of both.

Oops, thought I was in the fixie forum... Sorry to any mod seeing this. :X

dont call it a fixie or you will get bucked off the bike :) get a track bike instead of converting. If you care about having decent wheels don't get a stock build, but build up the bike yourself. there are several fames you can buy and you can get wheels to your liking built.
you wont have gears and other crap on there, so it'll be light anyway, but just depends on how big of a WW you are. My track bike has SUPER thin/light tubing, so it's super light, even though I have some heavy components on it. have fun, don't coast and avoid doing annoying "tricks".:D |
well, how light do you want it? I'm getting a fixed gear, and weight was not a factor. Although I am a WW, my road bike is probably lighter than most fixed gears out there.
I'm prety sure is the same as the road bike world, the lighter you want it, the more money you need to throw at it. |

Even though I have a fairly light steel road/track frame (as well as a few others), I've been toying with the idea of building up an aluminum frame/carbon fork fixie from like a stripped bikesdirect frame I see popping up on ebay and building up a wheel with the Eno hub. I've read the most people only go the Eno hub way if they already have the frame, but still, that frame has gotta be lighter than a steel.
