Anyone use these yet? How's the chamois compared to the S2?

I was under the impression that the chamois was the same, and the lycra was different. I could be way off, though.

love my S2's but have not gotten a pair of S5's. I need to wait till they under $200.00 on ebay

I have a pair of the S5 Mille, the F.I. 13`s are still hard to get in Black/mysize.

The S5 Mille Bibs are thinner and more shear than the S2 Milles. The chamios
has a better feel too i think, a little bit thinner but not much.

They've been worth every cent.

Will buy again, if they ever wear out. They appear newer each time I pull them out of the drawer!

If you do a search on the subject, you'll see about 10 threads about this in the last 2 weeks or so. Also, several people have done very detailed reviews on these several times in the last 6 months. Nothing new to say about them.

I have a pair of the Assos Mille S5; I paid $170 online for them over a year ago. I have not used the S2.

Comparatively, I have a pair of custom bibs that cost $115 that use a pad from E.I.T. which I find more comfortable than the Assos. However, the Mille S5 is the best off-the-shelf bib I have used (compared to Giordana Forma Red, Cannondale Carbon, Performance, De Marchi, Biemme).

I wish the Mille S5 had more compression in certain areas of the legs but overall, a very good long-distance bib.

Oh, you have to go and be all special now and get custom huh?

I don't like them as well as the S2, but not so much because of the chamois although it has some issues. Mine are medium and the leg grippers are not as tight, nor are the legs as a general rule, so they tend to ride up my leg as I ride. The chamois has a little dimple in the middle and on a long ride, 70 mi or so, feels like someone is poking me with a nail up through the saddle. I probably won't buy another pair of S5, especially since I just purchased a pair of castelli body paint bibs, which are supremely comfortable, chamois seems almost to disappear, and very good leg compression. Also cheaper, about 230.

It took a sharp and really on it type of individual called MadCowMoo, to establish which of three different S5 bibs is actually being compared and discussed. Interesting.

My justification is that they were cheaper than the Assos :)

I still haven't found the perfect bibs. There is always some sort of problem, either with durability (even when hand-washed), the leg compression, leg grippers, or chamois just plain sucking.

I have the same pair, the materials feel great, but a tad looser and doesn't feel as strong as the S2. Chamios feels great, maybe a slight improvement. I think I like the S2 better and still have one pair I bought on sale stashed away.

Sounds like you've run the gamut, but give the Capo stuff a try you might like it; they're made by Bergamo.

Here's two secrets, not everyone comes here every day, and every thread is a repeat of every other similar thread over the last ten years. Go get yer pimply ass in a pair of these bibs. :twitchy:

i own a pair and they are the best thing since sliced bread!

I won't ride for three or four hours on a slice of bread, but then again, I try not to eat my bibs.

They taste like ass and it makes the next ride just miserable.

And I'd add that the S5 bibs are definitely better than the S2's. I like the variable lycra, and the chamois is surprisingly better. I really had no complaints with the S2's, and didn't want to change but couldn't find them anywhere when I went looking last year. I'd pick the S5's over the S2's now any day.

I agree with oujeep1, the leg grippers run a little loose. Overall quality seems good. The chamois is decent but it gives me a ridiculous wedgie - I'm staying away from ASSos.

Definitely not $50-100 better than my normal sugoi rs bibs.
