Fat (and shallow) bars rule
i recently switched from some old ITM mantis 26.0 road bars to some 31.8 FSA Wing Pro Compacts. i also added some Fizik bar gel under the tape, and i'm amazed at how much more comfortable the whole cockpit is with the wide flat bar tops and gel padding. i'm also using the drops way more than i ever have with the shallow drop.
i've always just used whatever drop bars i had laying around or were left over from my last build but i'm surprised how different these feel.http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/IMG_1844.jpg |
Nice. can't wait to buy mine
|
Those are very nice bars. A teammate of mine has them, I love non-ergo drops and flat top.
Sweet bike btw... |
Those look like exactly what I've been looking for. I'm running Chorus as well - is the transition from bar to hoods as flat as it looks in that pic?
Nice bike :) |
must have more pics of the bars from all angles! I am considering buying them but noone on this whole site has pics.

I ride the standard drop FSA Wing Pro and have considered the shallow before. Without being able to see on in person it would be nice to see the pics instead.

took a couple days to get around to it, but here'a a couple more pics of the Wing Pro Compacts http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/IMG_1947.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...e/IMG_1951.jpg

VOMIT. They may be comfortable, but you're riding a race bike. If you can't handle a 140mm drop you need to stretch.

Cancellara is riding the 3T Ergosum... A compact bar... He doesn't race bikes though... Your preconceived notion of what should be, shouldn't be... |
only posers use the little extra piece of bar tape. hardmen go with the mechanics wrap :)
|
Very very sweet bike. But then again, you know I am a little partial to those LOOK. Wink...wink....!!
It goes to show you how much personal feel and taste goes into everything. I have those same gel pads put into my bike when it was built up and I hate the living hell out of it. My hands are on the smaller side and I prefer the bar to be of smaller diameter so it feels better on my hands. My bars have flat tops as well and their size with cork tape over it feels just perfect. With these gels pads it feels way too big. WARNING: Be prepared to get bombarded with notes about the bar tape job, the seat being dirty, the cranks and derailers not being carbon, your choice of color and components, and your house orientation not facing Mecca.......... |
Did someone mention the stack height yet?! Woa.
|
thanks for the pics! Those could be the bars I've been looking for!
|
the bar gel is an experiment, i only used it on the tops but i've yet to completely make up my mind on the stuff. the bars continue to prove themselves, i feel really solid in the drops when descending, and am just down on the drops more in general.
as for the rest, i agree the seat is dirty, it's going soon. damn thing weighs like 375 grams. |
