Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2007 Ridley Excalibur at Competitive Cyclist

Is there a better value than the 2007 Ridley Excalibur for $1899 at Competitive Cyclist?

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ro...0408RidleySRAM

I haven't seen anything close to a deal like this on a new bike. Am I overlooking something?

I got mine last year with Centaur (carbon cranks) and paid $3400. That's an awesome deal on a great bike.

No, this is a great deal. I almost pulled the trigger, but found a killer deal on a close out at LBS - other wise I would have gone with the Ridley.

That's a really good deal. Much better than your typical previous year mark down too.

Oh, BTW, the black/grey color scheme from the '07 model kicks the crap out of the new colors as well, IMHO. Put a black seat on it, and black bar tape, and you're riding a stealth bomber.

Mine shipped today. I can't wait. CC "upgraded" me to the 08 white/black/red scheme. I didn't have a preference between the two color schemes and I figured newer frame would be better for resale if it ever came to that.

Would it be possible to run compact chainrings with the 2008 SRAM cranks and derailleur? I don't see anything listed for the 2009 SRAM group that I won't be able to live without, but this site (https://www.rouesartisanales.com/article-18854456.html) lists that a 110mm compact version will be available. Is it not possible to run a compact setup on a 130mm crank?

nope, I believe the smallest chainring you can run on a 130mm is a 38. You'll need a compact crank with 110m spacing.

I've been looking at this deal since I majorly dented my old frame, and it's a beat-up bike with 9-speed so there's no use getting just a frame. Himmelberger - how'd it go for you? Why'd they upgrade you?

Anyone else bite?
