CAAD9 or Six13 ? Hello Economic Stimulus Check !

Ok.....I've been mulling this one over for some time...

http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=366491

Finally in a position to make this happen....I'll be buying frame/fork only and swapping over parts....

Most everything I've read so far has me leaning towards the CAAD9 which is also approx. $100 cheaper than the Six13 frame.....even though the Six13 comes in a very nice all black configuration.

Here's the CAAD9 in Black/Silver:

My contact at Cannondale insists that although the Six13 is about 50 grams heavier than the CAAD9 it is stiffer than the CAAD.....however, an LBS owner who's opinion I also respect states that the front end of the Six13 is noodley....he doesn't care what year frame it is........he says get the CAAD9 too...

I think they're both fine frames however I've yet to read any really negative comments about the CAAD9 at all while I do sometimes come across some minor complaints about the Six13. I've also been (I don't know why..but) concerned about the future of either one or both frames as Cannondale seems to be following the trend of migrating to all carbon for their high end frames.....

I have an 07 six13 and it's a great bike, but it is different from the 08. They changed the carbon they use and I think the construction process. I've heard that the 07 frames are better, but I'm not sure. Either way I haven't ridden an 08, but I like my 07 a lot. I got the frameset new on ebay for $550 if that helps.

It would help if you explain you reasoning for the OP.

You need to consider what you want from the bike as well.

They're both going to be solid performers, but the Six13 might be a little more comfortable because the geometry is a little different and it has a longer head tube.

See if you can test ride the bikes before you buy.

Good luck! You'll love either of them :)

CAA9 or Super.

Are there prices on Cannondale frames available anywhere online, or do you need to call the LBS?

bdcheung 04-23-08 09:30 AM

Cannondale doesn't allow online sales, so LBS is usually the only place to go.

....I've asked my contact at Cannondale and he says all of the test ride bikes they have at their offices in Bethel are SystemSix and above....

I guess I could run to my local Cannondale dealer and ride some of theirs....I hate to lead folks on though...

As far as what kind of riding I do....it's mostly short stuff, during the week <= 20 miles.....weekends 45 miles or less....but I try to do a couple 100 milers a year too....time, TIME !!! I'm always scraping for time....

I ride a CAAD9 and the thing is a rocket. I can't really give a good write up on the comfort because I was fit wrong and I've had lower back issues due to fit.

Tell the dealer you're going to order a frame from cdale and you want to test ride. They probably won't say no.

Everyone loves them though, and I'm waiting on a new frame to make good on it.

LBS's don't want to hear that stuff.....trust me....

Well then just say you're looking around at bikes and go check one out.

Either way you won't go wrong with either frame as long as it's the right size.
The SIX13 might be alittle more comfortable due to the geometry difference.

JoeOxfordCT 04-24-08 07:15 AM

I did not realize that there were any significant geometry differences between the CAAD9 and the Six13. I had always attributed the extra comfort purported in the Six13 to the carbon tubing......

I think for right now the CAAD9 will be more than enough frame for me and perhaps when we get our next Economic Stimulus Package check a few years down the road I can look at upgrading to a System6 or Super6....or whatever crazy frame Cannondale comes out with by then.....CAAD10 anybody ?? :D
