Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cheri had foot surgery back in October. Her recovery didn't go as planned and she has been going to physical therapy 3 nights a week, but finally was able to start riding the trainer in February. I was finally able to take her out for some rides about a month ago, but kept her to easy rides of 10-20 miles over flat terrain on her hybrid until she could get her legs back. We also used the rides to experiment with different shoes, pedals, cleat placement, etc, to find the best combo that wouldn't leave her in pain.

Well, last night, for the first time this year, she drove my truck up to work with her road bike so she could ride home with me and leave the truck here are work. 25 miles, 1.2k elevation gain total, a couple of short steep hills, along with some long gradual inclines. She's done the route before and has always enjoyed the short steep hills, but lagged behind on the longer inclines.

Now I've always said she should be a natural climber at 5'2", 100lbs, but her foot was always the limiting factor. No more. She left me in the dust on every climb last night! I could live with being too fat for this sport...but now I'm too fat for riding with my wife.

Time to get serious about loosing the winter fat...plus quite a bit more.

I guess that would make mine a natural descender.

and Cheri and Kirke and Psimet and whomever else happens to be training that day.

To be a team you gotta do everything together, train, eat, shower, sleep in the same room, sometimes even in the same pajamas.

This thread has taken a twisted turn. I'm a little disappointed in myself that a) I've read every post; and b) laughed. Let me add c) I am actually posting in it. Abandon all hope ye who enter....
