Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I feel like the weakest rider in the world - feel free to tell me I suck

Today I rode with a guy who probably outweighs me by 20 pounds, is probably at least 20 years older than I am, and had coffee in his water bottle. At the end of our 28 mile ride, he's pulling away from me and asking me how I'm feeling (as I'm barely able to get my weak ass up another 1 percent incline).

If I didn't love riding and just drop some decent money on a nice new full carbon bike, I'd quit riding and replace it with beer....

I wish I could blame it on something other than me sucking, but I checked everything. My brakes weren't rubbing, my wheels seem to spin fine, etc.

If you need somebody else to tell you how bad you suck, you need to work on your Self Loathing skills. Pcad needs no such assistance.

Some people are just winners in the genetic lottery. Or maybe he just rides a lot more than you. Who knows?

Here's a hint: It starts with H, ends with U, and has a TF in the middle.

A much older guy that I ride in a group with regularly and I were riding together last night. We had been part of a larger group but I got dropped off the back and he came back to keep me company. I ended up with my third best time for the 30-mile training ride. We were almost done and he asked me what my heart rate was. I replied 155. His was 131. No wonder he is much stronger than I. I have at least 12-15 years on him. He does ride everyday and has been riding many thousands of miles each year. Maybe I will catch him in his declining years. But that will be about the only way.

Definite whining.

Whenever a clysedale passes me, I always think to myself: That guy is probably a Cat 1 podium racer who lost his super-hot blonde girlfriend in a race against his arch-rival, who is also his older brother. Then he let himself go and went on a drinking/eating binge and put on 150 lbs. Now his chance at redemption (and another chance to race his brother!) is coming up and he's trying to get back in shape so that he can show his ***** of an ex-girlfriend who's the better person. Also, his trainer is a smart-but-nerdy type girl that begins their relationship as simply a friend, but later becomes his true love interest.

So PCaddy, how much do you suck? Can we have empirical data?

Find some little kid on training wheels and challenge them to a race. That should make you feel better.

LOL I have checked to see if my wheels were spinning and my brakes were rubbing more times than I care to remember. It must be our bikes

Happy riding!

Ok... I do suck.
But I'm not complaining about it. I just enlist a girlfriend to buy an expensive roadbike and ALL the necessary gear, give to 2 mins on the trainer to figure out her new pedals and shoes and make her climb bridges with me.
That was my ride today. I feel great!

You don't suck for having someone make you work harder. You will suck if you use that time to abuse yourself over it, give up, and become a beer swilling loser.
