my powdered gatorade hardened TFU over the winter...
literally, it's crystallized or something, but i don't think it's mold. And just to be safe i've tested it by adding a bit of vodka and rum to knock anything ugly out. Seems to be OK for the upcoming summer I guess...

Sounds like some moisture made its way inside the package. I wouldn't worry too much but just in case you should definitly keep mixing it with the vodka that way you don't have to worry about any strange bacteria!

You live in the "PacNW." The heavy humidity in the air there made the Gatorade wet and it crystallized as it dried. Chip at it or replace it.

I have found that if you let a bike sit all winter untouched, the tires get flat.

Yep, moisture gets to it and turns it hard. I don't buy the larger cans of it for that reason, and it's not even that humid here.

If you get any water on the scoop and drop it back in the canister, that's the begining of the end right there.

yeah my cytomax does that too. I've taken to cutting out the big chunks, putting them in a ziploc, and pouding the (stuff) out of it before it's small enough / broken up to put in a bottle.
stupid cytomax.

you can still buy powdered gatorade? where do you find it? I'd love to have a can laying around, just to gut down on the volume of stuff to truck home from the store, but the last time I remember seeing it I was still in high school. Do you have to order it from somewhere?
On the upside, the little bottles that you get at 7-11 or in the six packs at the grocery store will fit in a water bottle cage...

My solution is to toss in a couple of silica gel packs into my powdered drink mixes before the off-season. They tend to keep things loose.

One plastic scoop equals one standard bike water bottle. I pre-mix about 6 bottles and stick them in my beer fridge where they are ready to go every time I'm ready to ride.

Well, that too. It does the job and doesn't cost $2 per serving like the overrated ones.
Be careful saying that. Each size can comes with a different size scoop. The smaller cans use a smaller scoop, which I actualy like better because I use 3 of those scoops for a 20-21 oz bottle and 4 scoops for a 24-28 oz bottle.
