components for a beginner

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

components for a beginner

so i'm newer to the biking world and i've been riding on shimano sora components and i was wondering what might be a better upgrade from that for a fairly new rider who is looking to make a step up... i've been told shimano 105's are a good step and was just wanting some advice before i commit to anything

105s are better than Sora, but I am guessing that the components are not the only weakness with your Sora equipped bike. What bike do you have?

Are you considering a 105 group to replace your Sora bits? If so, this is probably not your best first upgrade.

i know that the 105 set is still pretty basic and i was asking what other components are out there for basic training that could possibly used for racing in the near future

Don't replace your components if they are still working OK. Though saying that if you really want to replace something that you will really notice the difference (both in performance and in lightening your wallet!) then upgrade your wheels to some lighter weight ones. Something like these are good - https://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=W1001

IMHO...If you are in the beginning of a bike build I would buy a packaged group and the same mfr's wheels.

Campagnolo Xenon with a Khamsin wheel set + frame of you choice for a low budget build.

See Pro Bike Kit

Keep your old bike for riding in the snow.
