Sigma 1606 DTS

I have just finished the install on my Sigma but I can't seem to get the thing to pair with the cadence or speed sensor. Looking in the manual it says that once everything is installed then I turn the "cadence" in the settings to "yes" and flick back to the menu. I need to scroll to the cadence and speed display whereby both settings should flash.

Thats where the problem is, I can get all my sensors picking up the respective magnets and the distances are within the allowance but the computer itself just has a solid screen indicating "speed" and "cadence". But they aren't flashing, have I done something wrong or is my unit toast?

I am pulling my hairs out trying to work out whats going on with this thing. I've even removed the computer and moved it around to see if that helps but nothing. I've taken the batteries out too...nothing. And I've tried to ride my bike for the desired time but still....nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers
MJ

Make sure the computer is properly clicked in and seated in to its mount, with the two little silver posts on the back of the computer contacting the two silver contact points on the mount. When that contact is made between the posts and the contact points, MPH (or KPH) and Cadence should flash, and will start giving readouts when you spin the wheels. If that isn't the problem, and you are in the USA, you could call SigmaSportUSA at 1.888-744-6277 for further suggestions, or you can Email them with your problem from this page: http://www.sigmasport.com/en/service...rvice_kontakt/

thanks very much, that was exactly the problem. The mount was slightly twisted where i mounted it and just as you said the contacts weren't perfect. Problem sorted, now I gotta head out and play with the new toy! Thanks again for the info :)

Glad that helped you out. I have one and it has been a consistent performer---although if you ever crash, make sure it is still clicked in to its mount before you take off again. Also, the later runs of that model come with a more secure "click in" mount than the earlier runs of that same model. Sigma will likely send you the later, upgraded mount for free if you call that number above, and happen to have an earlier run where the click in was not so secure. If you have the later run mount, that "click in" should feel hard and secure.

Since I am old, I especially like the big readouts on these computers, whereby I can still easily read the computer with off the shelf dark glasses and without prescription dark glasses.

Oh I got to add 2 cents!

I got the exact same computer a few weeks ago.... the installation of it was a BIG PITA!!!! I was so annoyed that I was gonna just post a review of it but then my temper cooled a bit.

The elastic system that they use is totally ********; before getting the product I went on their site and they have this installation demo.... and they show how the elastics work.... and I thought to myself "what a great idea.... everything seems so fool proof and easy". Then I get the actual product, and these elastics aren't as great as I thought. I ended up using zip ties and a special attachment on my fork cause the elastic would just end up twisting the unit. Then, the actual manual that the items comes with is also very poorly made; first it will tell you "do this" so you do it, then after you've done it, it lists the exceptions and what you might have to do instead.... to me that doesn't make sense when taking the first action isn't easily reversible (ie. attaching with a zip-tie).

Finally, when I got the item, the seller had included this special attachment for the speed sensor and a bigger O-ring as well as an additional instruction page.... whenever that happens you know that they are anticipating problems and include these things right away but didn't when they originally designed them because the main instruction book didn't have them.

Just out of curiosity, to those who use this product, does your unit ever get stuck displaying a fixed speed when you've stopped? Say you were going 30 km/h, then you stop and the display still shows 30 km/h for say 10 seconds or so? I'm wondering if the trip distance is actully still adding up when the unit does this.

Coming from the perspective of one who has been using wired Cateye Astrales most of his life, and who had to run wires from the handlebars to two different sensors on the chainstays, the installation of the wireless Sigma was very clean and straightforward comparatively speaking, but that is probably because two O rings fit perfectly--the one around my stem for the computer mount and the one around my chainstay for the cadence sensor. A third O ring for the speed sensor on my fork was too big, so I put a couple of twists in it to shorten it and then attached the speed sensor to fork. The only other mod I did was write short headings with a sharpie on the computer frame next to each button so I can remember which of the four buttons is for what---RST. CLK, MD and SET. I still have other computers on other bikes and it is easy to get all the buttons mixed up.

I have had mine about 18 months and have never noticed that. I will watch next time, but my trip distances have always looked accurate, matching the trip distances I have in my logs previously from the wired Cateye Astrales.
