Ultremo vs. GP4000s tested
Not by choice, either.
Last Sunday I returned home from a Crit to find the front on my Ultremo's had a nasty sidewall blister. They have proven a fantastic race tire with unparalleled cornering ability, but I'd always been suspect about their durability. Not having a replacement available, I retired the set until I get one.
On the same wheels went on fresh GP4000s tires.
Nice tires. Super plush ride, but not as much feel. Tread feels sticky, but thus far I'm not leaning over on 'em as much. Durability looks to be much better, and for ~$30/ea at PBK they are way cheaper to run. Still though, after a road and crit race this weekend, I'd rather run the Ultremos when it counts.
So:
Schwalbe Ultremo for the win and little else.
Continental Grand PRix 4000s for everything with a little less performance feel.
Your mileage WILL vary.

I run with 4000S's and they're great by my standards..... Did you try out any other tires? What is the mileage on the Ultremos?

The GP's are great. Don't get me wrong. As to mileage, I've got just under 1,000 on the Ultremos and perhaps 200 on the GP's. At this level we're talking nuances.

I used Ultremos and they are the best tires money can buy,but we know durability will be limited, now I'm using continental force and attack and they are the best value for the money, but for hard core racing.. nothing like a nice pair of fresh Ultremos.

How do the Ultremos compare to the pro2's & 3's?
